The 1808 United States presidential election in New Hampshire took place between November 4 to December 7, 1808, as part of the
1808 United States presidential election to elect the President. Voters chose five representatives, or electors to the
Electoral College, who voted for
President and
Vice President.
New Hampshire voted for
Federalist candidate and
Minister to France
Charles C. Pinckney over the
Democratic-Republican candidate and
Secretary of State
James Madison by a margin of 4.8%, although Pinckney won the state's presidential election, however, Pinckney would lose to Madison in the national presidential election, making this presidential election as the second time New Hampshire voted for a losing candidate in
its presidential voting history.
