The 1796 United States presidential election in New Hampshire took place between November 4 to December 7, 1796, as part of the
1796 United States presidential election to elect the President. Voters chose five representatives, or electors to the
Electoral College, who voted for
President and
Vice President.
New Hampshire voted for
Federalist candidate and Vice President
John Adams, over the
Democratic-Republican candidate and
Secretary of State
Thomas Jefferson by a total of 78.6% margin of the popular vote, making this as one of the most voted for a presidential candidate in
presidential voting history of the state of New Hampshire.
