Hovevei is based on Hiba. Hiba means Fondship. Hovevei thus means Those who are fond of-, and is a sort of a more archaic version of Mehabevei (Which means the same thing.).
Lovers of- would be Ohavei, which I believe everyone can attest was not the name of the movement.
It might seem kind of odd with the square brackets, but Hebrew and English are quite different, and this one word means "Those who are fond of-", and this form is quite standard for such cases. If you don't like it, come up with a single English word which would mean exactly "Those who are fond of-".

religion
Was this movement religiously motivated, in contrast to bilu? I am under the impression that it was, but this isn't mentioned in the article.
Promoting an organization
This material does not mention Hovevei Zion at all. Its inclusion here is at best
WP:SYNTH. In fact the entire Background section is inappropriate. It must be written using sources that relate Hovevei Zion to the history. Sources must say "Hovevei Zion members believed..." or "Hovevei Zion members sought to..." or similar. At the moment the article is barely more than a manifesto.

The paragraph starts: "According to the Bible and Judaism, Eretz Israel is a land promised to the Jews by God..." Therefore, historical and biblical quotes are needed to prove this point.--

I've just found this discussion, dating back eight years, after adding 'citation needed' termplates raising the same kind of issues. Reliable secondary sources which discuss the article topic and actually verify the included text are required. Also, any statements made should have a neutral presentation. ←

I can't edit the article. Can someone put the category "Category:Jewish political movements"? And maybe also explain to me why I can't edit it

Galamore: It is already in category "Jewish political organizations" by virtue of being in "Zionist organizations". How do you justify creation of "Jewish political movements" when "Jewish political organizations" already exists? All the current members of "Jewish political movements" are organizations. I suggest you move everything from "Jewish political movements" into "Jewish political organizations" (or better "Zionist organization" if that is a proper description) then ask me to remove "Jewish political movements".
