1956 Summer Olympics in Melbourne (Prince Philip did), and neither did she open the
1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary (the Governor-General of Canada did). The only notable thing about the 2000 Olympics was John Howard's initial bizarre suggestion that he open the Games, which he eventually relented on in favour of the Governor-General.
