Operation Menu was from May of 1969 into 1970, so this doesn't conflict with a 1969 base opening.
restored the context about other Australian bases being used in the Vietnam conflict (minus the part about the not-yet-in powerer Whitlam government.) seems perfectly appropriate, otherwise.

http://www.newdawnmagazine.com/articles/20%20Years%20of%20Cover-Up1.html looks like a conspiracy theory website, and isn't a reliable source. It's pushing the tired conspiracy theory that the CIA engineered Whitlam's dismissal and can't be accepted at face value. I've re-removed the bit on North-West Cape as this is the subject of a seperate article, and it and Nurrungar had very different missions (NW Cape was a radio communications relay station while Nurrungar was a sattelite down station). --
