HMAS Adelaide (LHD 02) → HMAS Adelaide (LHD01) – I am the webmaster for the Royal Australian Navy. I request that this page be moved (renamed) to reflect a decision made by the RAN in respect to the pennant numbers allocated to the two ships in the Canberra Class. Before a decision was made in regards to the pennant numbers, speculation was that HMAS Canberra (III) would be LHD01 as she is the lead ship in the class and HMAS Adelaide (III) would therefore be LHD02. This is not the case. It was decided that both ships would retain their pennant numbers from their previous Adelaide Class i.e. HMAS Adelaide is LHD01 and HMAS Canberra is LHD02. I have edited the article accordingly but am not able to move the page.

I've undone Navywebmaster's edits to
HMAS Canberra (LHD 01) and
HMAS Adelaide (LHD 02) for the moment, only so that the article's remain consistent with their current titles until such a move is made. As Navywebmaster has said, there has been a lot of speculation and confusion over which ships will receive which pennant numbers (see earlier discussions at
Talk:HMAS Canberra (LHD 01)#Pennant number and
Talk:Canberra class landing helicopter dock#Pennant number switcheroo). Its good that the RAN has come to a to a decision, and is committing to the "match the frigates" pennant number scheme. Now, what we need is a recent,
reliable, published source (for example but not limited to: Defence press release, news article on the Navy website or in the wider media) for
WP:Verifiability purposes; one that contains a clear statement from the RAN that "Yes, Adelaide will be 01 and Canberra will be 02" (preferably one that continues "This is counter-intuitive considering the order they are coming into service, but we're doing it because we want the LHD pennants to match the FFGs"). Show us that, and I'll do the heavy lifting myself :) --

And on consideration, what I've done above is silly. What I want is reliable published sources discussing the use of pennant numbers in relation to these ships. What I have is the the website of the official body operating thise ships using the 'frigate' numbers in fragmentary but important locations locations (the
table of ships on the class 'article' and in the infobox of
eachship's 'article). This is sufficient to justify the relevant pagemoves, so I've been bold and moved Adelaide and Canberra to the appropriate pennants, and have begun to update the incoming links. --

P.S.: please note that I've placed a space between the LHD and the 01/02 instead of at the unspaced version suggested above, as current practice on Wikipedia, based on other sources (including the abovementioned RAN webpages), is to render RAN pennants with a space between the letters and the numbers. --
