Barry Drive was not constructed as a single carriage road. It was constructed in the early 1970s as a dual carriage way. For a while it had a kink to pass around a wooden building being used as the CSIRO herbarium, whose manager,
Nancy Tyson Burbidge, was opposed to the road. Initially traffic from Belconnen Way to Civic used Dryandra Street, which was a pain to all concerned.--
