Elizabeth Jarvis [1] is a British Liberal Democrat politician who has been Member of Parliament (MP) for Eastleigh since 2024, gaining the seat from the Conservatives. She has also been a councillor for Hamble and Netley on Eastleigh Borough Council since 2022.

Early life

Jarvis was born to a social worker mother of Irish descent and a military officer father from Hampshire, England. The first in her family to go to university, Jarvis graduated from the University of Essex in 1989 with a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in American literature. [2] She began her career in journalism as a travel blogger, where she was based in West London. [3]

Political career

Jarvis was elected to Eastleigh Borough Council for the ward of Hamble and Netley at the 2022 council election. [4] [5]

In the 2024 general election, Jarvis stood for election as the Liberal Democrat candidate in Eastleigh. During the campaign, she was involved in a row with the Conservative candidate, Sam Joynson, who accused her of not attending hustings for fear of being filmed. [6] Jarvis was elected with 34.4 per cent of the vote and a majority of 1,546 over Joynson. [7]
