Charles Adrian MacFie Maynard, [1] known as Charlie Maynard, is a British politician who has been the Member of Parliament for Witney since 2024. A member of the Liberal Democrats, he gained the seat from Robert Courts, a member of the Conservative Party. [2]
Maynard studied geography at the University of Oxford (1990-1993). [3]
Maynard co-founded the international investment advice company BDA Partners in 1996. [4]
He chaired the Witney Oxford Transport Group, which hopes to rebuild a railway linking Carterton, Witney, Eynsham and Oxford, from October 2020 to November 2023. [5]
He has been a member of West Oxfordshire District Council, elected in 2022 to represent Standlake, Aston & Stanton Harcourt ward. [6]
Maynard was elected as Member of Parliament for Witney in the 2024 general election. He had 41.2% of the vote, and a majority of 4,339 over the incumbent Conservative member, Robert Courts, the then Solicitor General for England and Wales, who had represented the seat since 2016. There were a total of seven candidates. [7]
Maynard is married to Sophie. They have hosted refugees from Ukraine and Syria. [8]
