The 2001β02 Los Angeles Kings season was the Kings' 35th season in the National Hockey League. Los Angeles hosted the 52nd National Hockey League All-Star Game, which took place on February 2, 2002.
Mattias Norstrom was named team captain. [1]
Head coach Andy Murray was involved in a car crash on February 15, suffering four broken ribs, a separated shoulder, and later symptoms of post-concussion syndrome. [2] Assistant coach Dave Tippett served as interim head coach until Murray returned to the team on March 6. [3]
The Kings tied the Red Wings for most power-play goals scored during the regular season, with 73, and had the best power-play percentage, at 20.68%. [4]
