In this project, you will work on a piece of writing to update an Wikipedia article about a specific topic. You will inform and explain with facts and data from reliable sources, rather than proposing your own opinions and conjectures. Your language also needs to be formal and clear to your Wiki audience. The goal of this project is to help you understand and experience how to integrate sources into your own writing. The assignment will be to compose a 2-3 page document, which will be incorporated into the contents of your intended Wiki page. You will also provide a list of sources you have referred to. The training and follow-up assistance for your Wiki editing will be given during this project.

Assignment - Get started on Wikipedia
Create an account and join this course page, using the enrollment link your instructor sent you. (To avoid hitting Wikipedia's account creation limits, this is best done outside of class. Only 6 new accounts may be created per day from the same IP address.)
It's time to dive into Wikipedia. Below, you'll find the first set of online trainings you'll need to take. New modules will appear on this timeline as you get to new milestones. Be sure to check back and complete them! Incomplete trainings will be reflected in your grade.
Milestones
This week, everyone should have a Wikipedia account.

Assignment - Choose a target Wiki article and prepare your draft
By Sunday, March 25, you will:
Select a target Wiki article to which you will add new information.
For help, review the "Finding your article" training below.
Once you have your topic selected, assign the article title to yourself on the Students tab of this course page.
Find 5 or more sources you will use for your Wiki editing.
Draft them in
your sandbox for help in your editing practice.
Complete a draft of 300-400 words which will be added to your target Wiki article.
Review the "Sandboxes and Mainspace" training.
Draft this in
your sandbox for help in your editing practice.
Identify what's missing from the current form of the article. Think back to the skills you learned while critiquing an article. Make notes for improvement in
your sandbox.
NEVER copy and paste your draft of an article over the entire article. Instead, edit small sections at a time.
Copy your edits into the article. Make many small edits, saving each time, and leaving an edit summary. Never replace more than one to two sentences without saving!
Be sure to copy text from your sandbox while the sandbox page is in 'Edit' mode. This ensures that the formatting is transferred correctly.
Keep reading your sources, too, as you write the body of the article.
