The following are some notes for a standard population genetics style.

TeX Markup

Alleles

Alleles should be bold. Where an allele already has a name, e.g. for sickle cell anaemia, use that. Otherwise use A and a (? but suggests dominance; is there an alternative?)

Allele frequencies

Standardly, use p and q for allele frequencies, possibly r for a third. s is unfortunately used elsewhere for .

At equilibrium, they should be represented with an ampersand hat over the top:

Fitness

The standard letter for fitness is w. Mean fitness should be represented as:
