- The main problem I have with the style of this and similar s-x templates is that they are require editing the same information in each and very article they are used and their "transclusions" can't be tracked. With navboxes you just create it once then transclude it on all pages. You also get access to tools like Template:Check completeness of transclusions which can help track transclusions. In one of the nominations above, Template:Patrick O'Brian provides the same information in a much more editor friendly format. Gonnym ( talk) 20:25, 6 June 2024 (UTC)

Template:Audio-lang exists and seems to do this a bit differently).
All of these templates are the exact same other than the language link and tag. Before we end up with 100s of these similar templates, it would be better and much easier for maintenance if these are merged into one single template that accepts a language code and produces a link. This can be done with {{
ISO 639 name link|ar}}.

Per Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Pronunciation, IPA is the primary and recommended way of documenting pronunciation, so ideally this construction should not be used at all. Creating a new template may facilitate this nonstandard practice, so just destructure them. I'm going slightly more "discussion" with this TFD than anything, primarily thinking that {{
dag}} should either be merged into {{
dagger}} or renamed to make it more obvious as to why it's being used (though expanding the name might then make it longer than just typing out the <sup>...</sup> pair...). As it stands, {{
dag}} by itself is potentially confusing (e.g. "what is a dag", or why it gives a superscript output) so I feel like something needs to be done.

- @ Primefac: The preferred option is to redirect {{ dag}} to {{ dagger}}. Given its minimal use, merging simplifies matters. However, if retaining the functionality is crucial, renaming {{ dag}} to "superscript-dagger" or "dagger-sup" would clarify its purpose, albeit making it longer.
