Template:Vanderbilt Commodores football captains navbox ( talk · history · transclusions · logs · subpages)

There are multiple problems with this template. Starting with the WP:NAVBOX guidelines, there is no stand-alone article or list to support the subject of the navbox, i.e., Vanderbilt Commodores football team captains. Second, navboxes exist to navigate between existing content; this navbox has approximately 228 total links, of which approximately 176 (77%) are red links to nowhere. Third, there is the notability issue: are Vanderbilt football team captains notable as a class -- and a related problem, is being a team captain an honor or award significant enough to merit a navbox? And, finally, the navbox in question is unwieldy and poorly organized given its large number of links. Verdict: DELETE. Dirtlawyer1 ( talk) 18:43, 16 August 2014 (UTC) reply

  • Normally, transcluded navboxes do not contain sourced footnotes, but I have seen navbox view pages that included notes with sources. The usual way to source a navbox would be to have a fully sourced article or list that supports the navbox. This navbox, as noted above, has no stand-alone list or article to support it.
