Suspected sockpuppets

Evidence submitted by George

LebaneseZp has been protecting specific, poorly written and unsourced edits to the Lebanon article, originally written by IP address 72.10.109.105, for some time:

There are other examples, but I think the pattern of prolonged edit warring and skirting 3RR is clear. I warned the user that they were violating 3RR, and the next day a new user with no previous edits, Joetoril, pops up performs the same revert:

Update #1: I've added a second IP address which, like the first, is also from Connecticut, that I suspect of being the same user and making the same basic revert:

Update #2: I've added a third IP address - also from Connecticut; same edit to same article:

I believe that these users are the same person as the original IP editor, and are being used as sock puppets to edit war and get around 3RR. ← George [ talk 20:48, 21 May 2009 (UTC) reply

I've added a second IP address I suspect of being the same editor. This IP address made the same revert, and the two IP address both trace back to Connecticut. The second IP address also re-added Joetoril's edits, which makes me further think that they're all the same person, and that Joetoril is a SPA sock puppet. ← George [ talk 22:40, 22 May 2009 (UTC) reply

I believe LebaneseZp, to be a person of Lebanese decent, who wishes to to use wikipedia to further his agenda. That agenda being that Lebanese people are not Arabs. With the current state of world affairs, and social views of arabs in the US and other countries. I can see this reason for such an agenda. But these edits MUST STOP, they are threatening wikipedia's neautral point of view, they are biased. While I am sorry for any descrimination this user may be facing in reality, I strongly encourage this user to be blocked. This has gone on long enough. For now, i will continue you to monitor the lebanese article and related ones, as well as this user and others ,I suspect as assistance. AnOicheGhealai ( talk) 08:32, 25 May 2009 (UTC) Please forgive my intrusion but I felt like something should be said on behalf to this incident. I've seen stuff like this before. I read the edit made by the user about Lebanese people not being Arab. Its true that his tone is making the article sound biased but frankly there is truth in what he's saying. If the paragraph he wrote could be rewritten to make the tone more neutral and put it in a section about Demographic of Lebanon--I feel that it will have proper wiki status. From genetic testic and history tracks--Lebanese people have been identified with somewhat of a different culture that Arabic. While the Arab did conquer Lebanon and many people were Arabized the Lebanese still had a Mediterranean-Phonecian lineag. reply

Its sort of similar to the Syriac- Assyrians in Iraq and Assyria. They were conquered by Arabs but a multitude retained an identity of Assyrianism with the Syriac Orthodox Church and the Aramaic Language. The only difference is that Assyrians don't have a nation yet.

Sorry for intruding on something I wasn't in but I had this on my heart that I wanted to say--this user had a legitament point, in away. Please discuss anything regaurding Phonecian identity on the Lebanon talk page. :) Schnitzel MannGreek. 15:45, 26 May 2009 (UTC) reply

Clerk, patrolling admin and checkuser comments

  • LebaneseZp and the IP are clearly linked (edit warring over the same paragraph of unusual description), and the IP appears to be static. Not seeing the immediate connection to Joetoril, edits to Lebanon are different aside from one revert of User:George which appears to have been aimed at a different bit than what the IP and LebaneseZp have been protecting. •  Clerk note: clearly the IP is LebaneseZp, and clearly he is engaged in an edit war. However, forgetting to log in is not something we block people for. Neither do we treat people who are just on the right side of the WP:3RR line more severely just because some of the edits were whilst logged out. If there is a case of the first IP and the registered user together violating 3RR, then it can be taken direct to WP:AN3 where it should be dealt with more rapidly than it will be here. Unless there is stronger evidence, I am minded to delist Mayalld ( talk) 16:12, 26 May 2009 (UTC) reply

Conclusions

Delisted whilst there might be something to take to WP:AN3 here (particularly if the edit war goes on), there is no convincing evidence of malicious socking. Mayalld ( talk) 18:47, 26 May 2009 (UTC) reply
