• Keep per Navy of Sudan below. Someone looking for the navies of all the countries of the world, or for all the navies on a particular continent might look these up. And rather than getting a blank (which is ambiguous - is there no navy, or have we just not covered it yet?), the reader might find information that a particular country doesn't have a navy (and mention that it's landlocked) helpful. In the lead to Armed Forces of Belarus (where the redirect Navy of Belarus leads to), it explains that Belarus has no navy, which is highly relevant to anyone trying to look up its navy. • Keep Austria is a landlocked country, but it wasn't always, it had a navy. The navy ran river operations on the Mississippi during the Civil War, so navies don't need to operate at sea. Vermont was a landlocked "country" and it had naval forces on Lake Champlain during the Revolution. • Keep - these are good redirects. Sudan appears to have a navy (see below). Anyone looking up the navies on the others needs to be informed that they don't have any navies. And the redirects lead to the relevant information on Wikipedia:
  • Navy of Sudan - leads to Military of Sudan which states it has a navy. Google searching seems to confirm this.
  • Navy_of_Andorra - leads to an explanation that the country has no defense forces.
  • Navy_of_Armenia - leads to Military of Armenia which explains in the lead that the country has no navy.
  • Navy_of_Austria - ditto.
  • Navy_of_Afghanistan - ditto.

Sometimes doing new page patrol, I ask for advice on IRC about how to handle an article. What I first saw was several new pages about something that "didn't exist" so I asked for advice. First it was "redirect" which I did, then we all felt silly about making "navy of" redirects to landlocked countries that didn't have navys. Since the first redirect and primary target of this nom has a navy, I'll withdraw the nom, as far as the rest go, I can't guarantee someone else won't nominate them. One thing you might consider doing is updating Navies of landlocked countries with information about Sudan's navy. -- Ron Ritzman ( talk) 01:03, 18 September 2008 (UTC) reply
