I think the combination of the stereotype "Kid in Africa" and a dark literary quote is unsettling. It's probably supposed to be humourus, but it's not
marked as such. Anyway, I think either one of the two things might violate
WP:UPNOT, and the combination perhaps even more so.

first choice delete, second choice delete shortcut and keep. Though I perhaps could understand the thought behind the essay, the way it's represented should definitely not be said in Wikipedia's voice.

Comment reads like a criticism of WMF's outreach efforts although I am less familiar with the politics surround that in 2008. Within that context, I'd probably be a weak keep but delete the WP:KIDINAFRICA redirect regardless. But am unsure.
