Portal:Ellen DeGeneres

Portal:Ellen DeGeneres ( | talk | history | links | watch | logs)

Single person portal with only 16 articles in it's scope which fails WP:POG. The 16 include at least one list and pages on the subject's mother, brother and romantic partner who are independently notable. Portal allows you to see her head shot twice on the same page. This adds no functionality not available on the main article, a good chunk of which is repeated in the portal minus the references required for a BLP. Interesting discussion among a very small group of portal enthusiast editors who could not solve a bunch of redlinks in portals so they tossed references out. No mention of BLPs there so they did not even think of that angle or consider general Wikipedia policy of V. They just found a fast way to solve the ugliness. That does not bind us now. BLPs should have Refs and be Verifiable right on the page. That is Wikipedia policy. Legacypac ( talk) 09:07, 4 April 2019 (UTC) reply
I'm not sure there's consensus for any requirement for in situ sources in BLPs in portals. The main page is heavily patrolled yet lacks sources for its BLP content, deferring to the underlying articles. Portals should not include negative material on living people. In terms of editor patrol, portals are the exact opposite of the mainpage. Anything linked from the mainpage is extensively reviewed first many things including proper sourcing. Yes, some see portals as a mainpage like thing for a topic, but the scrutiny is very different. Legacypac ( talk) 21:33, 4 April 2019 (UTC) reply
  • Delete - Again, a single-person portal has too narrow a focus, and too few articles, and was part of a wave of reckless portal creation by the portal task force. Robert McClenon ( talk) 23:20, 5 April 2019 (UTC) reply
