Where is the dispute?

Rufus (Street Fighter), a minor character who has only appeared in one Street Fighter game.

Who is involved?

Just a list of the users involved. For example:

What is the dispute?

Essentially what we have is an article that is about a non-notable subject. There is 1 single editor (Kung_Fu_Man) whom is attempting to remove tags for discussion regarding merging the article into a main list. The concensus on the page at large under discussion seems, by my understanding, to indicate the subject NOT being notable enough to warrant it's own article. It's not even that the article itself is not noteworthy that is my issue, it's that one editor reverts any tags trying to open the discussion. Rather then getting into a pointless revert war with someone who is fanatical about a sub-character, I'd simply like you all to look at it.

What would you like to change about this?

Honestly I just believe there needs to be something in place to prevent someone from protecting their pet articles from discussion. Again, the general concensus, as far as I can determine (and it is possible I am allowing my annoyance bias my view), is that this is not worthy of a standalone article. This character has only appeared in one game and has no real involvement in the series at large.

How do you think we can help?

Essentially I just want to get more eyes on this before it gets out of hand. As it stands right now the notability of the subject is SO low that there is not likely to be any traffic besides the fanatic and myself.

Mediator notes

I've had a look at the article, and it seems to be of decent quality. It looks well-referenced and well written. I see a lot of shouting on the talk page, but notability is not about how important YOU think a character/person/tree is, its about what third party sources say about it. Given that the article has been independently reviewed as A-class, I can't see a real reason for merging this page. I think it best you all make comment below, addressed to me, as to why you think this article should either be merged or stay as is. Discussion

Saying that he is unnotable just because he appeared in one game seems WP:Fancruft. It's like saying that Sagat and Sakura deserve an article just because they appeared in more games. The article easily passes WP:Notability and has become GA so there's no reason to merge per guidelines. Tintor2 ( talk) 16:26, 23 March 2010 (UTC) reply

The character is not notable. The character, in all the articles quoted, is mentioned as a byline. In the comic the character appears for three panels. In the movie the character appears for 30 seconds and is a quickly defeated joke. Worse, it is, in fact, fancruft to pretend the character Is notable. I see Wikipedia is more interested in protecting odd obscure fandoms because an editor has been around longer instead of being an encyclopedia of useful material. I take my leave, and join in the millions who scoff when it's used as a resource. If you expect to be taken seriously, follow your own guidelines. SoheiFox ( talk) 17:46, 23 March 2010 (UTC) reply

Why don't you read WP:Notability?: "Determining notability does not necessarily depend on things like fame, importance, or the popularity of a topic—although those may enhance the acceptability of a subject that meets the guidelines explained below". The fact that a character is minor in a franchise does not mean it does not deserve an article aslong as it has real world information in it. Tintor2 ( talk) 19:17, 23 March 2010 (UTC) reply
