If this indeed is copyrighted in the United States for some reason (for example, by virtue of not being published before 1989 or something), then it should be trivial to find a replacement which satisfies {{ PD-URAA}} per {{ PD-Denmark50}}. Stefan2 ( talk) 16:55, 12 March 2014 (UTC) reply

Fails WP:NFCC#8: not critically discussed. Stefan2 ( talk) 17:32, 12 March 2014 (UTC) reply

I oppose the proposed deletion. I do not believe the use of the image fails the criterion Nr. 8. The still depicts an important scene from the episode " D-Girl", containing in its shot its two key guest stars, Alicia Witt as Amy Safir and Jon Favreau as Himself, unique to that episode of The Sopranos alone, interacting with the principal character of the series, Christopher Moltisanti. The scene is critical as it marks the first time the two guest characters meet Moltisanti, both of whom later go to greatly influence him in the course of the episode. The picture even portrays subtleties such as the body language of the characters, consistent with their mannerisms displayed throughout this work of fiction. Although the scene itself is described in the "episode recap" section of the article, such mentioned details visualized in the picture, I think, over at the recap section, would be too impertinent to describe in text. The image is located in the standard TV episode infobox, allowing for an instant recognition of the episode for the reader who has just opened the article, saving them the time of having to dig though the synopsis for clues. As per the requirements, I think the image does indeed "significantly increase readers' understanding of the article topic." -- TheBearPaw ( talk) 19:26, 13 March 2014 (UTC) reply
delete just a random scene used to decorate a article about an episode (probably not even notable by itself). -- damiens.rf 19:27, 13 March 2014 (UTC) reply
Excuse me? What are you calling random? Are you even familiar with the subject matter of the article to be able to comment on its use of the image? Using words such as "probably" when weighing in whether to delete other user's volunteer contributions is most audacious, arrogant and ignorant conduct, and your input can only be rejected. I could say than an image accompanying an episode article of a notable TV show in its infobox is standard practice, used widely for shows such, e.g. The X Files, Star Trek, etc., some designated as "good" or even "featured" articles, one picture per episode article, there is no "illustration" of anything here, and the only thing that could be described as random here is this attack against an ordinary TV episode infobox image. -- TheBearPaw ( talk) 18:45, 18 March 2014 (UTC) reply
Please do not fixate on the word "critically," I've replaced it in the picture description page to hopefully not be a sticking point anymore, as per the very text of the policy itself, and I argue in my statements above, the image "would significantly increase readers' understanding of the article topic, and its omission would be detrimental to that understanding." Furthermore, the image is used as, in essence, a titecard/poster as in movie article infoboxes, since no such titlecard for an episode exists, a scene from the work can be used in its place. There is no precedent to suddenly start removing hundreds of TV episode infobox images, affecting a great number of articles, which had no such problems or complaints raised before.
This whole page and section, is this merely one's word against another's, some flash execution trial voting by random wanderers to this terribly hidden page with three-word-sentence-arguments rather than a "discussion" on the merits of the image, as the template noticeboard calls for, rather than anyone trying to refute my argument points? Plus, I also do not think some of my arguments could fully have value to other users if they are not sufficiently knowledgeable of the subject matter discussed in the article, which I think is vital for being able to grasp the significance of the picture. It takes but a second to suddenly delete any uploaded picture, but for article builders, all good-faith volunteers, it is a long process of finding, selecting, obtaining and uploading them. All for them to be one day subjected to abrupt trials, without any definite possible aim?; such practice is irresponsible to say the least. -- TheBearPaw ( talk) 18:45, 18 March 2014 (UTC) reply
