Original - The calcareous sponges of class Calcarea are members of the animal phylum
Porifera, the cellular sponges. They are characterized by spicules made out of
calcium carbonate in the form of
calcite or
aragonite.
Reason
We don't currently have any FPs of sponges; this is an attempt to remedy that. It's one of the very nice scans we have from Haeckel's work. About 7 megapixels of calcareous skeletons.
