Category:Druze people by nationality subcategories

The result of the discussion was:rename per nomination, but delete the Russian category for the reasons stated. The short names are not an aberration, see e.g. the parents for Ismailis within
Category:Ismailis by nationality. There were other piecemeal suggestions which did not gain explicit support; these may be brought back in follow-up nominations, e.g. a "descent" category might fit better in
Category:Argentine people of Arab descent, but there is not a sufficiently clear consensus to introduce varied names based on this discussion. –

Propose renaming most or all subcategories (main category is fine)
Rename -- The Druze are a Middle Eastern religious group, in Lebanon and perhaps neighbouring countries. In those parts such religious communities seem to be largely endogamous, so that they are effectively quasi-ethnic: compare Assyrians, Armenians, etc. There is a longstanding precedent that such categories are renamed to
Category:American people of Druze descent, etc. This was done (as renames) for all nationalities, except American about a decade ago.

Support this suggestion. Druze are actually more endogamous than either Assyrians or Armenians (many Middle Eastern Christians freely intermarry with other Christians, but Druze do not since they only count someone with two Druze parents as Druze). (

Relisted to generate a more thorough discussion and clearer consensus. Relisting comment: A different set of rename targets was also suggested. Please add new comments below this notice. Thanks, — Ceso femmuin mbolgaig mbung, mellohi! (

Reviewing my suggestion -- Syrian, Israeli, and Lebanese should probably be renamed as nom, because they are in or close to there homeland. The two Egyptian people are/were emigrants from Lebanon, so that Druze descent might be appropriate, but
Category:Druze immigrants to Egypt might be better. The Argentine and Venezuelan people seem to have been born in those countries, so that descent is entirely appropriate, and one has converted to be a Catholic. Some of the Americans might be better in
Category:Druze immigrants to United States. The Russian category relates to an Israeli Druze who trained in USSR and took nationality there but is back in Israel - probably delete as SMALLCAT.
