- Are you disputing categorisation by defining characteristic? What is more defining of a book than its author? Are you disputing WP:Smallcat: "unless such categories are part of a large overall accepted sub-categorization scheme"? We have always kept single item categories for books, songs by writer etc (eg 2010 July 26#Category:Novels by David Marusek): I would find it irritating not to find a book in 'books by author'. - I am not disputing definingness, but definingness is a necessary criterion, not a sufficient criterion. Categories can be merged/deleted by any criterion in WP:OCAT, not just by WP:NONDEF. I am disputing the smallcat exception here, first because many book articles are not in a book by author category so it isn't that well accepted, and second for the reason I mentioned earlier. Horse-stub}}, while breeds would be tagged with the existing {{
Horse-breed-stub}}. Does this make sense?
