Nominator's rationale: It is unclear what is exactly energy resource facilities and how it is different from the energy infrastructure. The energy resource facilities tree is used only for the United States as a part of subcategory for the energy infrastructure while all other countries energy categories use only the energy infrastructure tree. It is unclear why we need a different categorization tree for the United States. There was similar discussion back in 2012 which was closed as keep. Since then, the overall country-specific categories tree has been developed.

Comment -- The two items that I looked at had only Power station in <state> in them. As an Englishman, I would have expected "infrastructure" to be more about power transmission and the like. I therefore wonder whether a merger if both to a higher level category might not be better. However, I do not know local conditions in US.

Merge but Neutral on New Name In practice, I think these categories should be combined because there is not a clear distinction. Per the comments above, I'm neutral on whether is a merge, reverse merge or a new name entirely.

Merge all as nominated. "Energy resource facilities" aren't clearly defined and even in the U.S. won't be
WP:COMMONNAME for these. Rather subdivide by more specific types of infrastructure if there's enough content. --

Merge both to
Category:Lincoln assassination conspirators per Peterkingiron; "people associated with" could mean people not "responsible" for the assassination;
Charles Leale, the doctor who treated Lincoln for gunshot is certainly "associated with" the assassination; indeed, he is probably only notable on that score. But, he was not a conspirator, nor was Secretary Stanton, the Vice President, some body guards we have articles on (
Henry Rathbone and
Ward Hill Lamon), again probably only notable for their "association" with the assassination.

If my suggestion is followed, the category will clearly need purging. My problem with "associated with" categories is that there is no limitation on how closely, so that editors are liable to add anyone remotely connected.

I created
Category:People associated with the assassination of Abraham Lincoln using the pre-existing
Category:People associated with the assassination of John F. Kennedy as a model since that category and its subcategories include articles on the victims, suspects, witnesses, investigators, medical personnel, and other people closely connected to the assassination. Prior to my creation of Category:People associated with the assassination of Abraham Lincoln,
Category:Lincoln conspirators and most of the articles in the newly-created category were previously included in
Category:Assassination of Abraham Lincoln which I subsequently designated as a parent category of Category:People associated with the assassination of Abraham Lincoln. The reason I brought this newly-created category to the attention of the Categories for Discussion page was a suggestion from
User:Americus55 to delete the pre-existing Category:Lincoln conspirators and then merge the articles from that category into Category:People associated with the assassination of Abraham Lincoln, or failing that, I would also be in favor of renaming Category:Lincoln conspirators to
Category:Lincoln assassination conspirators while leaving Category:People associated with the assassination of Abraham Lincoln intact as a parent category thereof.--

Delete we should not be categorizing anyone by specific shows that they appeared on. If people truly are notable for being reality television contestants, they can easily be categorized under nationality + reality television contestants. There is zero reason to break it down by show.

Keep For some of these people, winning CBB is what they are best-known for (at least to a substantial proportion of the population). Hence it is defining and is a valid, relevant category. You could argue that winning reality shows is similar to sportspeople winning tournaments or entertainers winning awards - and we have many cats for those things.

In principle, support -- They were brought on to Big Brother because they were already notable, and being a contestant was merely one performance in a career. The problem is that this is liable to be followed up by a nom for
Category:Big Brother (UK) contestants, where many of the people are notable (if at all) for being contestants. A few have gone on to other things; but if we deleted that, we would be left with a lot of orphaned articles. This also applies to a few of the "celebrity" contestants were in fact not such, but put in to see what would happen.

I've had a look at the parent category as well, and the (potential) problem that Peterkingiron is mentioning does not really occur there, people in the parent category are also notable for more than just having been in Big Brother. So both the nominated category and the parent category may be deleted.

Relisted to generate a more thorough discussion and clearer consensus. Relisting comment: I'm relisting both of these categories currently at CFD and nominating the other three child categories so they are all together on the same log date. I don't think it's necessary to renominate to include the child categories, but all of these should (ideally) be closed at the same time.

Keep we routinely categorise reality TV contestants by which shows they were contestants on. For many of them it is defining. For many, it is what began their careers or kick-started their comebacks.
Jim Michael (

Most of them are low-level celebs, rather than people who are properly famous. Some of them are of such low notability that they don't have their own articles - even after living in the CBB House. As I said, in some cases it is defining - because it launched their careers or comebacks. In some cases, it's what they're best known for. For years we have categorised reality TV contestants by which show(s) they participated on - whether they were celebs at the time or not. I don't see why this type of cat would not be valid for celebs, whilst being valid for non-celebs.

Delete Sure, these aren't "A list" celebrities going on this or Dancing with the Stars. It's people trying to restart their careers. Nonetheless, the whole point of these shows is that they are already (vaguely) remembered by the TV audience. That's makes this a performance category, not something that defines these people.

Delete as PERFCAT. If they really are celebs, they will have an article anyway. Non-celeb contestants may need a category, because they will probably be notable for nothing else, though I would question whether such people should have articles at all.

As I've said, not all of them are proper celebs. Calling Casey Batchelor and Grant Bovey celebs is ridiculous. She's 'known' for doing a bit of
glamour modelling. He's 'known' for formerly being married to

Stephanie Pratt has a successful career and high profile merely for appearing on reality shows.

Delete performer by performance, we don't have these sorts of categories. I disagree with Jim Michael's comment above; these don't define them in exactly the performer by performance manner; if these were celebrities before, their appearance on the show is no more meaningful than being a guest (as themselves) on a talk show, game show, or such. We don't have
Category:The Tonight Show guests,
Category:Celebrity Jeopardy! contestants, etc.

It's much more meaningful than being interviewed on a talk show or being a contestant on a episode or two of a game show. They live in a house for weeks. Many of them aren't proper celebs.
