  • Beyond the initial statement that he's a politican, nothing about the rest of the article actually suggests that he's actually a politician in any substantive way — the substance of his "political career" section is describing a government bureaucrat, not a legislator. None of this is a compelling notability claim, and the sourcing is not solid enough to satisfy WP:GNG. Delete. Bearcat ( talk) 07:21, 26 May 2016 (UTC) reply

He was also appointed Co-Convener of the National IT Cell,BJP by party President Shri Rajnath Singh ji in 2013. Bjp is biggest political party in India, vinit goenka was co-Convener of this party , this is pure political assignment He has also worked with Hon. Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji on preparing his 3D van for Delhi elections. this is the work of a renowned politician, government bureaucrat can do this Vinit also handled the National Elections Social Media strategy. He mobilized all IT Cell and Social Media Cell Karyakartas this can only be done by a political person with big political status Vinit Goneka has a verified twitter handle as political person https://twitter.com/vinitgoenka Member IT task force is a political appointment BearCat open your eyes and see the facts [User:abhasbajpai|abhasbajpai]] ( talk) —Preceding undated comment added 15:29, 28 May 2016 (UTC) reply

Being co-convener of a political party convention makes him a bureaucrat, not a politician; being a member of an IT task force makes him a bureaucrat, not a politician. A politician is an officeholder, not an organizer. And having a verified Twitter handle does not constitute notability for our purposes either — notability is conferred by media coverage about a person, not by their own self-published presence on social media platforms. My eyes are already fully open, so stuff your personal attacks on me down the gopher hole of your choice. Bearcat ( talk) 15:39, 28 May 2016 (UTC) reply

BearCat you seems to live in your own black hole who dosn't know anything about the indian political system BJP is a political party and posts and appointments are political [ [1]]

even members of task force in in indian ministries are political appointments (let me know any one bureaucrat doing so in India).

just enlighten yourself about difference between bureaucrat and politician and political system in India, then come with hard facts, don't put own thinking as opinion. about media coverage just check [ [2]] — Preceding unsigned comment added by Abhasbajpai ( talkcontribs) 16:25, 28 May 2016 (UTC) reply

Your aspersions on my intelligence are unwarranted and unwelcome, and consider yourself warned that you can be blocked for making personal attacks against other editors — you haven't crossed that line yet, but you're getting a lot closer to it than you think, so you need to dial back the attitude. Getting back to the matter at hand, however, I'm fully aware that the BJP is a political party — but the roles that Vinit Goenka has been appointed to are not political offices, but jobs on organizational committees. But a person has to be a holder of a political office — a mayor, a member of the legislature, a premier or prime minister or state governor, etc. — to satisfy our automatic-inclusion criteria for politicians. A person involved in politics or civil service in any other capacity besides holding a political office must be the subject of enough reliable source coverage in media to pass WP:GNG — but none of the "sources" here qualify as reliable source coverage. You're the only one failing to understand anything in this discussion, not me — and, for added bonus, your userpage strongly implies that you have a direct personal or professional relationship with Mr. Goenka, which means it's a violation of our conflict of interest rules for you to be directly involved in creating or editing an article about him. Bearcat ( talk) 17:11, 28 May 2016 (UTC) reply

Hi there, bearcat. Please check this Wikipedia page: /info/en/?search=Bal_Thackeray . Please tell me which political office did this personality from India hold to qualify as a politician. The same rule must apply for Vinit Goenka too, right? Is this a fair question to ask under your standards? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ncbipindra ( talkcontribs) 17:36, 28 May 2016 (UTC) reply

That article cites 75 reliable sources, which means he passes WP:GNG regardless of what anybody thinks of the reasons why he might be notable. This article cites zero reliable sources. I'm going to go over this one more time, because you clearly misunderstood what I said: a holder of a notable political office automatically gets an article as long as they can be verified as a holder of that office, even if the sourcing for it is initially inadequate (although the sourcing does eventually still have to be improved before the article can be considered good.) A person who has not held a political office, but is active in politics as an organizer or a civil servant, can get an article if the sourcing is solid enough to pass WP:GNG, but is not automatically entitled to one just because they existed. Thackeray has the sources to pass GNG, so he's allowed. Goenka does not have the sources to pass GNG, and nothing claimed in the article entitles him to an exemption from having to pass GNG. Is that maybe a little clearer? Bearcat ( talk) 17:54, 28 May 2016 (UTC) reply

Again: presence of enough reliable source coverage about them in media to satisfy WP:GNG regardless of whether they strictly pass WP:NPOL or not. Which still has not been demonstrated for Goenka at all — a person does not get a Wikipedia article on the basis of having staff or member profiles on the websites of organizations they're directly affiliated with, or by being named in government documents they were involved in creating: a person gets a Wikipedia article by being the subject of coverage in media, but there hasn't been any such coverage shown here at all. Swing and a miss, right across the board — I've explained above why none of these new "references" count for anything at all. Reliable sourcing for a Wikipedia article does not mean "any webpage you can find that happens to have his name in it" — it means he has to be the subject of substantive coverage in sources that are independent of him, and every single source you listed above fails at least one of those three requirements. Still not coverage that's substantively about him: all four of those articles merely namecheck his existence as either a bit player or a soundbite provider in an article that's about something else. And again, that's not the kind of coverage it takes to get a person over WP:GNG. Bearcat ( talk) 14:49, 4 June 2016 (UTC) reply

Bearcat what do you need exactly to ascertain our statements for the person claimed as he is? To my understanding, WP:GNG is met; if not met requesting point talk what are the violations.

If a topic (Mr. Vinit Goenka) has received significant coverage (media reports) in reliable sources (national media) that are independent of the subject (national media), it is presumed to be suitable for a stand-alone article or list.

Waiting Bearcat — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ersiddhartha ( talkcontribs) 05:57, 5 June 2016 (UTC) reply

GNG is met if and when a topic has received significant coverage, which means that they're the subject of the coverage. You need to learn the rather big difference between that and the "coverage" you've been offering, which merely mentions his name in articles where he is not the subject. An article has to be about him to count toward passing GNG — coverage which merely mentions his name, in an article that is substantively about something or someone else, does not get a person over GNG. Being the interview guest does not equal being the subject of the coverage. The subject of that interview is not him, but whatever topic he's talking about. And valid sourcing for Wikipedia content cannot be on a user-generated content site such as YouTube or a social media platform. You're still just not showing the kind of sourcing it takes, which I'm increasingly certain is because the kind of sourcing it takes simply isn't out there to be shown.
