This is one of a group of ancestral sketches previously listed for deletion at Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/William_Staniforth which was declined because many voters were opposed to the bulk nature of the listing.

There appears to be no claim of notability, but this article is better than the ones I speedied, so perhaps it's worth discussing here. Uninvited Company 22:08, 21 December 2018 (UTC) reply

Keep due to being the first mayor of a large British town. 2602:306:CF9B:2700:FDB7:2843:D5FA:3F34 ( talk) 12:14, 22 December 2018 (UTC) reply

  • Keep Is the nom familiar with WP:BEFORE? Especially D. "Search for additional sources, if the main concern is notability - 1. The minimum search expected is a normal Google search, a Google Books search, a Google News search, and a Google News archive search; Google Scholar is suggested for academic subjects. 3. If you find that adequate sources do appear to exist, the fact that they are not yet present in the article is not a proper basis for a nomination." It's also not a valid basis for nomination that the article does not have a "claim of notability". In this case, the subject of this article is covered in History of Chesterfield: pt. 1. Tudor and Stuart Chesterfield (1984) [1], The History of Chesterfield: With Particulars of the Hamlets Contiguous to the Town, and Descriptive Accounts of Chatsworth, Hardwick, and Bolsover Castle (1839), [2], History of Chesterfield: Records of the Borough of Chesterfield and related documents 1204-1835, Volume 5 (1980) [3], The book of Chesterfield: a portrait of the town (1977) [4], Adventures for land, 1642-1659 (1900) [5], and newspaper articles in 1881, 1892, 1920, etc. He clearly meets WP:BASIC.
