Vidaamuyarchi (also marketed as Vidaamuyarchi: Perseverance Trimuphs) is an upcoming Indian Tamil-language survival action film written and directed by Magizh Thirumeni. It is produced by Subaskaran Allirajah under Lyca Productions. The film stars Ajith Kumar, leading an ensemble cast which includes Arjun Sarja, Trisha, Regina Cassandra and Arav.
Initially, Vignesh Shivan was announced as the director of Ajith 62nd film, under the tentative title AK62. However, he was subsequently replaced with Thirumeni. The film was announced in May 2023, in addition to the official title. Principal photography commenced in October 2023 and is currently being predominantly shot in Azerbaijan. The film has music composed by Anirudh Ravichander, while the cinematography is handled by Om Prakash, [a] and editing by N. B. Srikanth.
Vidaa Muyarchi is scheduled to release in theatres on 31 October 2024, coinciding Diwali. [1]
In March 2022, Ajith, who had three continuous film with H. Vinoth after Nerkonda Paarvai (2019), Valimai (2022) and an untitled project, which became Thunivu (2023), was reported to break the streak with the latter and join hands with director Vignesh Shivan for his 62nd film in the lead role. Vignesh's norm musician Anirudh Ravichander would reportedly compose the score. [2] Vignesh confirmed the project a few days later after the reports surfaced. He revealed that he narrated the script in 2019, and the actor was impressed by it. Production was set to begin at the earliest when both finishes their prior commitments. The project was funded by Subaskaran Allirajah's Lyca Productions, which had distributed the director's Naanum Rowdy Dhaan (2015). [3] The company made a public announcement on 18 March 2022, confirming the project; the film was announced under the working title AK62. [4]
In late January 2023 however, Vignesh, who was reportedly given almost six months to complete the pre-production, had failed to impress Ajith with the final script work. Magizh Thirumeni, who impressed the actor with his 2022 film Kalaga Thalaivan, was reported to take over the writing and directing with a new script. [5] On 1 May, coinciding with the occasion of Ajith's birthday, Thirumeni was announced as the replacement of Vignesh by the production house. While Anirudh Ravichander was chosen in his maiden collaboration with the director, cinematographer Nirav Shah and editor N. B. Srikanth were retained after working previously with the director. The film's official title, Vidaa Muyarchi, was announced on the same day. [6] Art director Milan died during the filming in Azerbaijan. [7]
Trisha was cast in the lead actress role, pairing opposite Ajith for the fifth time after Ji (2005), Kireedam (2007), Mankatha (2011) and Yennai Arindhaal (2015). [8] Arjun Sarja was also cast in a prominent role, reuniting with Ajith after Mankatha. Arav and Regina Cassandra were announced to play important roles. [9] [10]
Principal photography began on 4 October 2023 in Azerbaijan. [11] [12] It was to commence on the first week of September 2023, however, due to Ajith's commitments to his world tour, the shooting got delayed. [13] The makers' decision to shoot in Azerbaijan received negative responses from netizens as the country was then under civil unrest, particularly regarding the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. [14] The filming schedule reportedly featured Ajith in racy car action sequence. [15] In late November, Ajith returned to Chennai for a short break, [16] and returned to filming by 4 December. [17] Due to Nirav Shah's other commitments, Om Prakash filmed the whole schedule. [18] The schedule concluded by 29 January 2024. [19]
The music and background score is composed by Anirudh Ravichander, in his maiden collaboration with Thirumeni; third with Ajith after Vedalam (2015), Vivegam (2017) respectively. [20] Later, it was revealed that the audio rights were acquired by Sony Music India through the film's poster on Netflix India's post via X. [21]
Vidaa Muyarchi is scheduled to release in theatres on 31 October 2024, coinciding Diwali. [22]
The digital streaming rights were acquired by Netflix and the satellite rights by Sun TV. [23]
