WikiProject Films roll call and coordinator elections
Roll call and Coordinator nominations
It's that time of year again – we're wiping everyone's name off of the active members list and doing a project roll call. Your username is listed on the
WikiProject Filmsparticipants list, but we are unsure as to which editors are still active on the project. If you still consider yourself an active WP:FILM editor, please add your name back to the
Active Members list. You can also add your name to any of our many
task forces!
It's also time to start the
WikiProject Films coordinator selection process! We are aiming to elect seven coordinators to serve for the next six months; if you are interested in running, please sign up
here by 23:59 (UTC) on September 14!
The
Military history WikiProject coordinator selection process is underway, to elect nine coordinators to serve for the next six months. If you are interested in running, please sign up
here by 23:59 (UTC) on 14 September! Voting starts at 00:01 (UTC) on 15 September and runs until 23:59 (UTC) on 30 September.
A
new barnstar specifically encouraging and recognizing excellence in Milhist article creation and development has been introduced. Any editor who has made a significant contribution to three or more Milhist A-Class articles promoted since 1 August 2008 under the
new A-Class criteria is eligible. Nominations for the medal should be made
here; should list the three A-Class articles for which the medal is sought; and must be subsequently supported by three or more
project coordinators, who will be responsible for making the award. Editors may nominate themselves or any other qualifying editor.
A
new discussion about whether Milhist should adopt C-Class is underway. All comments are welcome.
The
2008 Tag & Assess Workshop is still open, seeking input on ways to improve the efficiency, user-friendliness and organization of future Milhist drives. All comment is welcome, especially from people who didn't participate in the drive!
Awards and honors
Durova has been awarded the
WikiChevrons with Oak Leaves in recognition of her exemplary work on military history featured pictures, sounds, and articles.
More people need to reply to questions on talk pages. Other users need our help!
There is still a discussion under way on what this project should include. Currently, consensus is forming that the project should include the Eurovision Song Contest and the Junior Eurovision Song Contest, but not the Eurovision Dance Contest. Tell us your thoughts at
Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Eurovision#Project Scope.
There is currently a backlog of assessments; the project's assessment rate stands at 36.2%. Please add {{EurovisionNotice}} to the talk pages of all Eurovision related articles if it is missing and read
Wikipedia:Version 1.0 Editorial Team/Assessment if you would like to help assess the articles as well.
In the coming days/weeks, instructions for the use of all Eurovision templates and descriptions for the layouts of pages will be up and running. As of now, a few templates are already complete: see {{ESC National Year}} and {{Infobox ESC entry}}.
The project currently has 41 members, 22 of which are considered active. This means that nearly half of our project's members have not edited a Eurovision article in the past two months.
We now have a project invitation. Place our
invitation template on the talk page of anyone you would like to invite to our project.
New Members
We would like to welcome the new members who joined in August. (alphabetical order)
Welcome to the second issue of the WikiProject Eurovision newsletter! This newsletter has been quite a success so far and I hope it continues to be so. I hope to rotate as much as possible who writes this "From the Members" section each month so everyone gets a chance to contribute.
The process of fully reorganising this project is still under way. A compromise is being formed to re-name this project WikiProject Eurovision Song Contest, but allow it to include the Junior Eurovision Song Contest as it is similar. The Eurovision Dance Contest will have its own project created simultaneously. I personally agree with this proposal, a final decision has not been made yet however.

Glenunga International High School
Hi Blnguyen. I don't want to get into an argument, so I will defer to your judgement. (In any case I remember it was you who posted a welcome on my talk page, yonks ago, so you have some credit due. :) ) However I must point out that apart from the date of establishment there is also the fact that the name "Adelaide Technical High School" was not apparently used until 1918. This is borne out (but unfortunately without a reference)
here.
Also I have at least provided a reference, where there was none. Since you may not have access to NewsBank, here is the text of the source:
CONTRARY to the statement in ``Do You Remember?`` (The Advertiser, 28/3/98), the South Australian School of Mines and Industries was established in 1889, well before the Tech. It was in 1903 that the School of Mines established a preparatory school, renamed the junior technical school in 1914 and, subsequently, the Adelaide Technical High School in 1918. In fact, the first recorded reference to the planning for the establishment of the original prep school goes back to 1898 so, this year, in May, the Adelaide Tech old scholars will celebrate (with some gusto and nostalgia) the centenary of its birth. It should also be noted that the Tech was unlike other technical high schools in SA in that, while it did include some studies in technical subjects such as woodwork and sheetmetal work, its emphasis was strongly academic, and its students consistently gained top honors in the Intermediate, Leaving and Leaving Honors public examinations. In 1963, because of pressure on space at the North Tce campus of the SA Institute of Technology (previously the SASM&I), the Tech was transferred to Glenunga where it now exists as the Glenunga International High School. It is pleasing for old scholars of the original school to know that that excellence in academic standards is still the driving force at Glenunga.
Wow, another Glenunga person....I guess we should put in both interpretations, and note that the school and old scholars celebrated it in 1998 and that they view 1898 as the establishment of the school. Unfortunately with regards to the academic performance, the school hasn't been so successful in exams and maths/science competitions and has been declining in the last 6-7 years. Oh I've made the suitable adjustments and noted that the school and ATHSOSA celebrated 1898 as their cententary anyway. Although I think someone will ask for a more reliable source than a letter to the editor. All the best, Blnguyen (bananabucket)

Thanks YellowMonkey (or whatever your name is today :) ). For the record, though, I'm not actually a GIHS old scholar. I came to this via a historical connection with UniSA. Cheers,

Your edit to Kieth Miller broke a lot of refs. You appear to be doing a rewrite, if you're finished I can try fixing these refs automagically for you. Let me know. --

I wonder if it isn't best to rewrite the split sections almost from scratch. Trying to trim the article and stay in summary style is difficult. Also, each of the split articles needs a lead section, structure etc. I must admit my enthusiasm for all things Wikipedia is at a low ebb at the moment but I will chip in and see what I can do. Cheers,

I've been taking a bit of a break from the FT project, but I'm ready to push on. I see that (since I abandoned it for Bradman a few months back) thanks to your efforts, Miller's article is in great shape. Shall we get it over the finish line? I've started a c-e to get what's there polished and add any cn tags needed. Next step, cite it all and then check it's comprehensive. Sounds OK? --

Yes, although I might be busy for a while becuase all the swimming articles are being swamped with messy edits and vandalism every day after the swimming finals. Also, because the main article and the forks are very similar I think it would be efficient for you to copyedit them in tandem since, the main article was forked to make it smaller and it is just a pruned down version of the uncut info in the subarticles. Blnguyen (bananabucket)

I think you're better off copying all the problems to me becuase sometimes I miss talk page posts with my articles being so quiet and owned by default. Blnguyen (bananabucket)

and also about the pruning, yeah it would be good for a third party to have a look because I am a bit attached. I would say the military section needs to be pruned down because he isn't famous for being a successful pilot, but mainly because of all the incidents that made him such a distinct personality. Maybe I've overemphasised this, but because Miller is so important I left all those incidents in there. Same for early life I guess. All of those are already in the subarticle so we don't lose anything. Secondly, nobody's going to kill us if the article is around the 80k mark - it's currently 85k - there've been some longer

It's probably an error, so I can delete it. I'm using Perry for convenience. He is a bit hopeless really, so when something doesn't add up, or is contradicted by some other place, he's been careless again. I see Phanto's IP has chipped in and removed some other things. Tintin and Phanto have found lots of errors in his stuff before. Blnguyen (bananabucket)

Copyedit request
Hi Blnguyen, I'm sorry to be a pain once again, but I was hoping you could copyedit
Joseph Maxwell for me? I have recently been working on this article, and was considering nominating it for GA. If you have the time and feel like it, could you please give it an FA standard copyedit? If you don't have the time or don't feel like doing it, then please don't force yourself to. Thanks mate,

Can you please re-protect the article under
the version where there is no dispute over the contentious NPOV vios? Naadapriya continues to edit war to reinclude these long term vios, despite my attempts to discuss these concerns on the talk page, and try to resolve this dispute through acceptable forms. I don't want the work I've put in (in terms of quality sourcing) over a number of hours recently

Swimming World Magazine Updates
Hey there,
I'm the managing editor of Swimming World Magazine, and have decided to try to expand/place some of our historic data here on Wikipedia. However, I'm horrible at wikiediting.
I used your table for the world swimmers of the year and altered it to try something for the high school national championships table.
That content is now on the Swimming World page, but probably should be on a separate page. No clue how to do that.
Also, can you make sure I did the table right, along with the three notes?
I'd also like to do two other things on here, but don't have a clue how to go about it. First, the easy one, is just add a list of past high school swimmers of the year. That should be pretty simple.
The second, which is going to take a LONG time, I'd like to figure out some way to capture all of our cover information in one place. Like, who has appeared on what covers and how many times. We have all the images hosted on our site, so it's not something we would need to put on wikipedia. But, I'd love to have all that information in an easy to see spot.
The very last thing I'll probably do after those projects is try to come up with a complete anthology of the names and authors of all back content. That way, people can tell who is the most prolific writer in our history.
Also, I think that if you placed a listing of all the articles and cover details on Wikipedia it would be removed on the grounds of
WP:NOT, under the grounds of advertising. Of course, if you put all those details on your main page with an easy to search index/archive, then it should be ok. Ahh, pity about Hackett, he was a grand old warrior. Blnguyen (bananabucket)

Thanks for the help! I went ahead and pulled the chart over to the link you created. Looks much nicer. Based on your suggestions, I'll probably just post the high school individual winners and try to find some other place for the cover stuff. We really don't have a good place to post that type of historic information on our site within the framework of what we do.

Hullo!!! How are you??? I've mailed you a long time back. Did you have a look at it??? You see I badly want this thing to be cleaned up. The stuff appears in search results. Your suggestion that I request
User:EncMstr to remove them is pretty good. But then, you see, since I accused him of inactivity with respect to the
User:NisarKand issue, I am not sure if he would oblige me by removing those messages. This is exactly the reason why I approached you. Do you have any alternate suggestions or possible means to get it cleared? I am extremely sorry if I am troubling you but then it is not my intention to do so. I hope you understand my plight. The thing gets on to me whenever I log in to Wikipedia. I haven't been contributing much of late as you might get to know from my edit count. The problem is that Wikipedia talk pages are as easily accessible as articles. If only you could help me solve this issue this time around it'll be good. I promise you that I will not get into such a mess again. -

Let me make it clear that I am not asking for something which is not feasible. I am only asking for something which is perfectly permissible under wikipedia policy.
I also posted this message in order to make
User:EncMstr aware of the meaning of the word and don't find the need why it should remain now the issue is resolved.
yes, you have already started deleting it, so I don't see what the problem. I don't see how oversight does anything here because there are no libelous revelations, personal information, just a terrible fellow shouting obscenities. YellowMonkey (bananabucket)

I bet your going to get so sick of me doing this - if you haven’t already that is! - but I was hoping you would be able to copy edit another article for me? I have improved
Blair Anderson Wark and would like to nominate it for GA, but thought I would get a good copyedit first. As usual, if you do not want to or are busy, then please do not feel obliged to do so; it is entirely your decision. Also, if you are getting sick of me pestering you then let me know and I'll request a copyedit from another editor. Thanks which ever way,

Surprisingly enough, there actually isn't a great amount of information available on him. However, I do actually intend to expand it further; I have just purchased a copy of his biography on eBay and it should arrive sometime next week. With this as a resource, I should be able to expand it quite a bit further. If you are still willing to copyedit the article, then I will contact you once I have expanded it further, if that's alright with you? Thanks,

Hm, if you find any relevant book on
Questia you can ask
Bilby (
talk·contribs) to sent you the full text of it. He has access and writes stuff about Austrlaian war memorials. And you should probably try out without copyediting it, I'm not sure that mine does much good actually. I wrote
Stan McCabe randomly without doing a ce and it actually had some really bad prose, and Jackyd gave it 8, and he gave BAW 8 as well.....YellowMonkey (bananabucket)
