Thank you for spending the time on the GA review! I read an article in the recent Signpost about the lack of reviewers. I reviewed a different nominee right after I nominated this one, like I've always done. FYI I waited about 2 months for this article to be reviewed. I completely agree with your assessment, the issues that you have raised prevent it from becoming a Featured Article and I had no thoughts on even trying. I will, of course, continue to watch for reliable sources and I'm sure I will eventually add this information. Royal broil 18:00, 14 February 2010 (UTC)
I just noticed that you are participating in Wikicup so there is great time urgency to get to the next stage. To me, the article is close enough. What concerns me is you only have one edit in 2010, not really enough to qualify for a Wikicup entry unless one tries to qualify on a technicality.
Consider the following: Last section - too short? More info available? Or merge it to another section? Any source to say that there was this job only in the U.S. even though coal is mined worldwide? Consider renaming the importance section something else (I know I suggested the word importance before) Function or tasks of breaker boys? The yellow picture is the most important so consider putting it at the top. The other pictures are less clear, just a group of people. Just make a few good faith changes and you'll qualify for Wikicup and GA at the same time. If I forget remind me in 2-3 days and the GA will be yours. Good article! Hi would you consider leaving the hold open for longer than 5 days. I would be prepared to put in some work to keep this article at GA but this is certainly not my highest priority task on Wikipedia and I don't want to be rushed. The main author of the article hasn't edited Wikipedia at all since I posted my heads up message about it being on the sweep list. I have noticed someone else edit the article today and have posted to their page to see whether they are interested in working with me to keep it GA.-- Peter cohen ( talk) 23:38, 12 February 2010 (UTC)
Thanks for contacting me, hopefully this will be helpful. For reviews of older films, usually we need to rely on book sources or newspapers (sometimes can be found in the archived Google News), or maybe a university database can look for old publications of reviews. If you'd like to include modern reviews of older films, then you can get reviews from Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic (although it's best to split up the reviews for the old and new since the time difference is a major factor in the interpretation/acceptance of a film). For instructions on improving film articles, WP:FILMS' style guidelines are very helpful. I would also recommend taking a look at the many GA/FAs in our Spotlight department. Many of these are great examples (especially the newer ones) of the many elements film articles include as well as ideas on where to find additional sources (also take a look at the Resources department for more assistance with sourcing). If you have any questions on improving an article you're working on, feel free to ask any of the project's members in taking a look or dropping a message at WT:FILM. If you need any further clarification, please let me know. It's good to see you take on film articles, and we'll be more than happy to help you out, especially if it means further GA/FAs! --Happy editing! Round one is over, and round two has begun! Congratulations to the 64 contestants who have made it through, but well done and thank you to all contestants who took part in our first round. A special well done goes to
Sasata (
submissions), our round one winner (1010 points), and to
Hunter Kahn (
submissions) and
TonyTheTiger (
submissions), who were second and third respectively (640 points/605 points). Sasata was awarded the most points for both good articles (300 points) and featured articles (600 points), and TonyTheTiger was awarded the most for featured topics (225 points), while Hunter Kahn claimed the most for good topics (70).
Staxringold (
submissions) claimed the most featured lists (240 points) and featured pictures (35 points),
Geschichte (
submissions) claimed the most for Did you know? entries (490 points),
Jujutacular (
submissions) claimed the most for featured sounds (70 points) and
Candlewicke (
submissions) claimed the most for In the news entries (40 points). No one claimed a featured portal or valued picture.
Credits awarded after the end of round one but before round two may be claimed in round two, but remember the rule that content must have been worked on in some significant way during 2010 by you for you to claim points. The groups for round two will be placed up shortly, and the submissions' pages will be blanked. This round will continue until 28 April, when the top two users from each group, as well as 16 wildcards, will progress to round three. Please remember to continue to offer reviews at GAC, FAC and all the other pages that require them to prevent any backlogs which could otherwise be caused by the Cup; thank you to all doing this last round, and particularly to those helping at Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. As ever, questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup and the judges are reachable on their talk pages, by email or on IRC. Good luck! Thanks to everyone's amazing efforts in February, we have reviewed all of the articles and are now finished with Sweeps! There are still about 30 articles currently on hold, and once those reviews are completed, I will send you a final message about Sweeps process stats including the total number of articles that were passed and failed. If you have one of these open reviews, be sure to update your count when the review is completed so I can compile the stats. You can except to receive your award for reviewing within the next week or two. Although the majority of the editors did not start Sweeps at the beginning in August 2007 (myself included), over 50 editors have all come together to complete a monumental task and improve many articles in the process. I commend you for sticking with this often challenging task and strengthening the integrity of the GA WikiProject as well as the GAs themselves. I invite you to take a break from reviewing (don't want you to burn out!) and then consider returning/starting to review GANs and/or contribute to GAR reviews. With your assistance, we can help bring the backlog down to a manageable level and help inspire more editors to improve articles to higher classes and consider reviewing themselves. Again, thank you for putting up with difficult reviews, unhappy editors, numerous spam messages from me, and taking the time to help with the process, I appreciate your efforts! --Happy editing! I'm not sure what is going on with this edit. I've expanded the article significantly and rearranged the structure a bit. I believe that I've addressed all of your suggestions. Please take another look and let me know.
Also, another user suggested that the name of the article really should be changed to John Mitchell (American football coach) to fit WP's naming conventions. I agree that this is a more appropriate name, but I don't want to change it while it's being reviewed. If the article is passed as a GA, is it okay to then move the article?— DeeJayK ( talk) 19:19, 5 March 2010 (UTC)
The Leonard Bloomfield article is decidedly incomplete, I have worked up the "easy" parts but haven't written up the main components of his linguistic work, his major textbook Language, the impact of his work, etc. I have not been active with this article for some time and it's unlikely I will get back to it any time soon, unfortunately. If you want to put it up for GA that's perfectly fine of course, but I won't be able to participate in the review. Thanks. Jomeara421 ( talk) 23:19, 10 March 2010 (UTC)

We're half way through round two, and everything is running smoothly.
Hunter Kahn (
submissions) leads overall with 650 points this round, and heads pool B.
TonyTheTiger (
submissions) currently leads pool C, dubbed the "Group of Death", which has a only a single contestant yet to score this round (the fewest of any group), as well five contestants over 100 points (the most). With a month still to go, as well as 16 wildcard places, everything is still to play for. Anything you worry may not receive the necessary attention before the end of the round (such as outstanding GA or FA nominations) is welcome at
