This is absurdly complicated. Firstly, substing defeats the purpose of templates, which is being able to add in extra information or remove existing information if necessary. Second, adding in the parameters has broken most of the Pokémon pages that transclude the template normally. See
Politoed for an example. I'm seriously considering reverting this.

It's quite cumbersome, really, but it does help with when useless links are added that they don't appear in all the Pokémon articles. But because most of the pages with this template have link lists which are quite irrelevant, it would be best that we follow subst with a better sort of template but not add that insanely large booklist below - not all Pokémon appear in such mentioned books anyway, and the template does cause a little bit of trouble when it comes to new Pokémon like Lucario. --

I had no intention of adding the whole list. The point is, each article needs different references. That’s just a list of suggestions. --

They will be fixed as I pass through each of the 493 articles and add the parameters. Or you can just fix the when you see them. Substing is better because each Pokémon has a different set of references which are relevant to it. This template was really created as an easy way of adding refs to all the stub articles so they wouldn’t be deleted when a lot were nominated. It was never intended as a permanent resource, and even before I ever touched it, several of the resources were only valid for the first 151. --

Um? that’s why I didn’t put them in the template! They aren't all relavant to even a majority of the articles. They are here on the talk page as suggestions for useful titles when customizing each article. See above where I said they “may be useful for some articles” and “some are already included in the template”? --
