It seems to me that this user did a lot of quality work on the article. Why the need to revert 100% of it, rather than remove offending content? And where is the offending content, I can't find evidence of copyvio. Elizium23 ( talk) 16:49, 16 November 2011 (UTC)
Hello, Elizium23. That's why I did the revert: I was able to Google multiple additions from different parts of the article and found that they were from other webpages. I didn't test all ~5100K across 50 edits, but it seemed logical to ask for a pause before this went too far. Normally I would "cookie-cutter" around it, but it takes time to go through so much at a time.
Here are the ones I found at the time:
  1. A number from [1], including "In the late 1950s, the construction of a Nike missile base in Westport" & "The town was made famous by the I Love Lucy television show".
  2. "Westport's Compo Beach was the site during the American Revolutionary War of a British expeditionary force's landing" from here [2].
  3. "In the town the population was spread out with 27.9% under the age of 18..." (etc) from here [3].\
Therefore, I could not take any of the edits at face value. Best, Markvs88 ( talk) 17:04, 16 November 2011 (UTC)
Did you bother looking at diffs of what you reverted? All the content you cite has been in this article for years, and is still in the article after your revert. Are you sure you are not seeing content mirrored from Wikipedia instead? Elizium23 ( talk) 18:04, 16 November 2011 (UTC)
Markvs88 & Elizium23 a big thank you to both of you for helping me through this and working through my edits to get a sense of how I have been editing.  Thank you. WestportWiki ( talk) 21:31, 17 November 2011 (UTC)

  • My apologies to you both! I spend so much time fighting vandalism that I sometimes lose sight of the forest for the trees. I have undone my edit on the Westport page, please continue, WestportWiki. Best, Markvs88 ( talk) 20:15, 16 November 2011 (UTC)

November 2011

Welcome to Wikipedia. Everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia. However, the username you have chosen (WestportWiki) seems to imply that you are editing on behalf of a group, company or website.

There are two issues with this:

  1. It is possible that you have a conflict of interest. In keeping with Wikipedia's neutral point of view policy, you must exercise great caution when editing on topics related to your organization or adding links to its website.
  2. Your account cannot represent a group of people. You may wish to create a new account with a username that represents only you. Alternatively, you may consider changing your username to avoid giving the impression that your personal account is being used for promotional purposes.

Regardless of whether you change your name or create a new account, you are not exempted from the guidelines concerning editing where you have a conflict of interest. For information on how to contribute to Wikipedia when you have a conflict of interest, please see our frequently asked questions for organizations. The article in question is Westport, Connecticut. Thank you. Elizium23 ( talk) 00:58, 13 November 2011 (UTC)

Hi Elizium23, I’m a private individual and not part of a group or organization.  Is it necessary to change my user name?  If it is how can I go about doing that?  Thank you again for your help. WestportWiki ( talk) 21:28, 17 November 2011 (UTC)
Hi there. I don't think it's necessary to change your username; the case for place names being promotional seems rather weak to me. If you would like to change your name, you can do so by following the instructions on this page. If you need any more help, please don't hesitate to let me know. Danger High voltage! 11:36, 20 November 2011 (UTC)

Sherwood Island State Park

I see you moved the information about the 9/11 memorial and the death of 2 Westport residents to the section about Sherwood Island State Park. I suggest moving the death information to another section, but keeping the 9/11 memorial info there. The section is about the park itself as an attraction, so the new material does not quite fit in that area. Jllm06 ( talk) 01:34, 29 November 2011 (UTC)

hi Jllm06, thank you for your suggestion. I agree with you two fold: (1) keep the 9/11 memorial info there, (2) move the death information out of the Sherwood Island State Park section as the section is about the park itself as an attraction. I'm ignorant of how the death information was originally conceived, by whoever added it, to enhance the quality of the Westport page. My thinking is that it doesn't seem belong on the Westport page as it doesn't inform in an encyclopedic way. So my suggestion is to remove it -- though as I am sensitive to whomever originally added it and didn't want to do so without consensus. What do you think? If you think that it should be moved to a new section can you please share your thinking on which section you see it being added too. Thank you. WestportWiki ( talk) 15:35, 29 November 2011 (UTC)

School articles

Hi WestportWiki, Just a quick note... Westport schools also belong to the WP-Schools project besides the WP-CT project, and they have some guidelines that we also follow. Please check out Wikipedia:WikiProject_Schools/Article_guidelines (and Wikipedia:WikiProject_Schools/Article_guidelines#What_not_to_include in particular), there's some great information in there about how to expand school articles. Best, Markvs88 ( talk) 15:57, 5 December 2011 (UTC)

Thank you Mark. Your note is very helpful. I reworked parts of the Staples entry to better reflect these guidelines. WestportWiki ( talk) 20:09, 5 December 2011 (UTC)

Hi. In your recent article edits, you've added some links to disambiguation pages. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Orphaned non-free media (File:Journelle Logo.png)

Thanks for uploading File:Journelle Logo.png. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the " my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on FirstGiving requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person, organization (band, club, company, etc.) or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that the page was nominated in error, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. Doing so will take you to the talk page where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but do not hesitate to add information that is consistent with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. Hairhorn ( talk) 15:14, 29 November 2012 (UTC)

Source of logos

Hi WesportWiki. I was looking at some of the logos you've uploaded recently and would like to know where you have obtained the images from? You've cited the company websites as sources, but I'm unable to find .svg versions of the logos on the sites. For example basware have logos to download, but neither are the same as File:Basware_Corporate_Logo.svg that you uploaded yesterday. Thank you SmartSE ( talk) 15:07, 25 February 2017 (UTC)

Hi SmartSE definitely have a thing for vectors and improving infobox's with SVGs :) I found most of the logos on the PDFs linked within the company website. I've updated sources of the the logo on a number of their summary page for the files I can recall the sources for. Best WestportWiki WestportWiki ( talk) 18:48, 25 February 2017 (UTC)

A tag has been placed on Template:WSJ requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section T3 of the criteria for speedy deletion because it is an unused duplicate of another template, or a hard-coded instance of another template. After seven days, if it is still unused and the speedy deletion tag has not been removed, the template will be deleted.

If the template is not actually the same as the other template noted, please consider putting a note on the template's page explaining how this one is different so as to avoid any future mistakes (<noinclude>{{substituted}}</noinclude>).

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. New Point72 Edits

Hi User:WestportWiki:

It’s been awhile since we’ve been in touch, and I see you haven’t made edits since May of this year. I hope you're well. I’m wondering if you are still editing Wikipedia, and if so, if you could you help me again to update and improve Point72’s article?

My first edit request is to the history section of the Point72 Asset Management page. In the second paragraph, I’d like to add this sentence at the end just before the last sentence that starts with "During this time…":

O’Connor left Point72 in 2019 and Tortorella assumed the role of General Counsel. [1]

Thanks for your time and consideration. AlexReads ( talk) 19:36, 30 October 2020 (UTC)

COI Editing Assistance

Hi User:WestportWiki:

I've noticed that you sometimes assist COI editors, and was wondering if you would consider helping me with edits to the Rajiv Shah page? I am currently doing paid editing for him, and am committed to adhering to the rules for such. My goal is to help my clients, and improve Wikipedia. I proposed some updates to the Rockefeller Section (the Rockefeller Foundation page will also be edited soon) of his page on the talk page on December 12th. Would you mind reviewing for Wikipedia compliance and making the edits? It looks like people that had an undeclared conflict may have edited the page in the past. They are now working with me to do this in a transparent manner, as they didn't understand all of the rules. Eventually, we would like to get the banner at the top of the page removed by doing things the 'right way.' Thank you for your consideration and time. I appreciate it. Best, LeepKendall ( talk) 22:11, 2 January 2021 (UTC)

Hi LeepKendall, thanks for reaching out. Sadly, I can't help you due to time availability; hopefully you can find another editor who can. Best WestportWiki ( talk) 03:29, 3 January 2021 (UTC)
Thank you for your reply User:WestportWiki. Do you know of any editors who work with COIs? I've been using the template since early last year and now I see the wait is several months long. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks again, LeepKendall ( talk) 22:36, 4 January 2021 (UTC)
