I'm Lieutenant Rino Gentile, in charge as Staff Public Affairs Officer (SPAO) on Operation Ocean Shield. I'm designated from my COM to update Ocean Shield page on Wikipedia and others Social Network. If my Username is violating Wikipedia policy, please let me know that i should change my username. Thanks for informing me.-- Ocean Shield SPAO ( talk) 19:57, 24 April 2013 (UTC) reply

Hi Lieutenant. I'm concerned not only regarding your username, but the possibility of conflict of interest, per WP:COI, and copyright violations, given that much of the text you've added appears to be taken verbatim from NATO releases. Notwithstanding your best intentions, Wikipedia is not a social network. I'll seek further feedback re: the article, but for the moment I've added templates to it that address these concerns. Thank you and best wishes, 99.0.83.243 ( talk) 20:31, 24 April 2013 (UTC) reply

Good evening again, I know that Wikipedia is not a Social Network I was just saying that I'm actually in charge of NATO Operation Ocean Shield Pubblic Affair and I'm working in order to update every media mean that that talks about the Operation that I'm now conducting here in the Indian Ocean on board ITS San Marco. I've seen that lots of the information in the wiki page in subject not only are outdate but are also wrong. (I can make lots of examples about this.. starting from the ships that participated to the mission). For these reasons an just to be sure that the right information are delivered also by this outstanding mean of information and culture, I'm trying to produce my best to insert updated info and a narrative of events that will represent the History of the Mission. The similarity You found with the info in the NATO web site is related to the fact that I am the one in charge of producing that information. Anyway if the policy is to have information that are non findable on other web sites, I can rearrange that paras without problem. Let me know. In any case I think we are working on the same objective, be sure that the info in the page represent the truth. Thanks a lot for Your time. Warmest Regards Ocean Shield SPAO ( talk) 21:00, 24 April 2013 (UTC) reply

You should change your username, but the larger issue is COI, the content that you're trying to add, and the fact that you were tasked to come and update the article on your organization. What you're trying to do is not allowed accept under very stringent restrictions. Editing about a subject that you have a connection with is strongly discouraged. You must be very careful that the content that you provide is supported by reliable sources, is neutral in tone, and does not aim to promote the subject. Really, the best thing to do is to make suggestions on the article's talk page so other editors can review the proposed changes to ensure that they meet policies. -- Mufka (u) (t) (c) 21:04, 24 April 2013 (UTC) reply

Dear Mukfa, I absolutely understand Your point and I agree. I can assure that my work is dedicated just to the real objective of wikipedia: share knowledge. Actually in the page is written that USS Enterprise participated to the mission... and it is absolutely false. There are lots of information that are not true. I'm not talking of comments and/or impression/evaluation, I'm talking of facts. I can provide a source for all the info that I add if it is needed. Just give me the opportunity to update and adjust facts. Ocean Shield SPAO ( talk) 21:23, 24 April 2013 (UTC) reply

{{ helpme}} I'm adding this so you can get some help with this. I can't help right now. -- Mufka (u) (t) (c) 23:01, 24 April 2013 (UTC) reply

Hey! You should go to WP:CHU/S and pick a new username following the instructions there. You should also probably (it's not forbidden, but strongly discouraged) not edit pages you're related to. If you do, make sure you provide a reliable source for everything you put in the article, and cite following the video guide here. Also, make sure you remain neutral in tone, and avoid puff words, like "greatest, best, one of the best/greatest, most experienced, revered" among others. Lastly, you may wish to propose changes on the talkpage first (link to a page describing talkpages in general), that way other editors will be able to comment before you add them. Any further questions, feel free to ask! gwickwire talk editing 23:39, 24 April 2013 (UTC) reply
