Hi! I will say that when I came across the tranche of edits, they didn't really sit right with me. IPA glosses and reeling off alternative common names seems pretty established precedent on Wikipedia; linking Wiktionary entries feels as redundant as linking the German or French version of the article, for instance. It seems to me to be more of a hobby-project than a earnest contribution to the articles. I personally left them as they were because I am somewhat green when it comes to the finer ins and outs of Wikipedia and I didn't feel like I could justify reverting the edits. But I trust your judgment and I am glad to see that someone else thought similarly.
Ultimately it seems wrong to pipelink names to Wiktionary entries. Perhaps if the author of the edits feels strongly then a compromise might be an entry in a See also section, though even then the articles would be fine without that.
