Hi there,
As one of the main New Zealand railway editors on Wikipedia, I'd just like to take this chance to welcome you to the site. I've seen your work on the Wairarapa-related articles you have recently created and I'm quite impressed. I'd been meaning to get around to making those pages, especially Greytown Branch, for quite some time now (the Wairarapa was my second home as a young child), but I haven't had the time and you did a better, more comprehensive job than I would've done anyway. The pictures are a particularly nice touch; for ages, I've been trying to get more NZR pictures on here, but it's a bit tough for me personally as I'm based in Australia nowadays.
You may be interested in joining the NZR WikiProject; it's a bit of a fledgling project at the moment, but it's finding its feet as a means to co-ordinate NZR-related edits. We have a Manual of Style that I recommend you read, currently located on my user space at User:Axver/NZRMoS but soon to be moved to the NZR WikiProject. If you have any comments on how the Manual of Style may be improved, please leave me a comment at my talk page. In fact, if you have any comments or questions at all, drop me a line. There's still lots to be done on NZR articles, both in creation of new ones and expansion of existing ones.
Again, welcome! Keep up the great work. It's nice to see another NZR editor on Wikipedia. - Axver 11:55, 10 June 2007 (UTC)
Hey, you seem to be more familiar with the details of Christchurch's railways than I am, so I was wondering if you could provide some input at Talk:Main South Line regarding an article on the Christchurch-Lyttelton section. It would be much appreciated. Thanks! - Axver 03:00, 14 October 2007 (UTC)
Hey, this is just a follow-up to the discussion we had on Talk:Main South Line. You mentioned that you'd heard of the MSL being double-tracked at least as far as Templeton for the benefit of commuter services, but you seemed less than 100% certain on this. This evening, I've been perusing the 1957 NZR Geographical Mileage Table and found some information on that. You may already be aware of it, but I thought I'd post it here on your talk page in case you're not. It states that on 7 June 1909, double trackage was opened Addington-Rolleston, a distance of approximately 12 miles 31 chains. It was evidently still double tracked in 1957 as no mention is made of this reverting to single track. - Axver 14:56, 21 October 2007 (UTC)
Templeton had most features of a typical station in the early years of New Zealand railways. In addition to the station building which was on an island platform between the two main lines, there was the signal box, stockyards and two railway houses. All of this has now been removed, there is a single railway track...
The signal box building was donated to the society in 1968 and was removed in December of that year...
Hi Matthew - just contacting you and a couple of other editors I know of who work on NZR articles to let you know that I've just created ‹The template Category link is being considered for merging.› Category:Railway stations in New Zealand, to parallel similar categories for other countries. Haven't really begun to populate it yet (any help you could give there would be useful), but basically I'm just letting you know it's there and can be used. Cheers, Grutness... wha? 23:12, 28 October 2007 (UTC)
Hello and welcome to the Trains WikiProject! Thank you for adding your name to our project membership list. Our goal is to build the most comprehensive and detailed guide to rail transport on Wikipedia. As a project member, you may add the project membership userbox to your user page if you wish.
If you haven't done so already, please add our main project page to your watchlist and take some time to review the Trains project manual of style where we have collected guidelines and suggestions on notability and style for a consistent representation of rail transport related material. If you're curious about where to start, we've gathered a few suggestions in the Trains project to do list. If you'd like to specialize in a particular area of study within rail transport, take a look at the current Trains project task forces.
If you have any questions, please feel free to ask on the project talk page or on my talk page. Again, welcome and happy editing! —Preceding unsigned comment added by Slambo ( talk • contribs) 11:48, 13 November 2007 (UTC)
Hi Matthew, I just thought I'd bring your attention to a discussion relating to the NZR Manual of Style, especially as it will affect the titles of a couple of articles you created. It's a pretty minor (and probably pedantical!) grammatical issue about whether article titles should be disambiguated with brackets or commas, but I'd like some input rather than making any unilateral changes myself. Please see Wikipedia talk:WikiProject NZR/Manual of style for the discussion. Thanks! - Axver ( talk) 01:20, 20 November 2007 (UTC)
Glad to hear you've got copies of the files. My proposed article is still in my sandbox, so feel free to edit it there. I'll try to dig up some extra details and help out too. I just acquired a copy of the 1930 Report of the New Zealand Railways Commission, so I'll have to flick through it and see if anything is mentioned there about a Wainuiomata proposal. - Axver ( talk) 01:02, 25 January 2008 (UTC)
Hi. I've nominated Kaimai Tunnel, an article you worked on, for consideration to appear on the Main Page as part of Wikipedia:Did you know. You can see the hook for the article at Template talk:Did you know#Articles created/expanded on February 3, where you can improve it if you see fit. I think the article is almost ready. My only major concern is the lack of in-line citations besides one that I did. I don't think I have any significant new information to add; your work has been quite excellent. - Axver ( talk) 01:36, 4 April 2008 (UTC)
Hi Matthew, sorry for my sluggishness with a response to your message on my talkpage. Life has been ... interesting and I haven't been on Wikipedia much at all, as I'm sure the low amount of work I've done on NZR material lately reveals. I apologise for not being able to contribute more to the Wainuiomata draft beyond that one little section I did at the beginning; certainly I expected to do much more. I think you have now comprehensively covered the topic and any work I could do would be mere repetition. I would be quite happy for the article to go into the regular namespace, and please, take full credit for it. - Axver ( talk) 11:30, 17 December 2008 (UTC)
Hi there. I notice you have done several of the recent edits for the Featherston Railway Station page. I am a new contributor so I am still learning the ropes, but I have started working on the Featherston (town) page and am seeking input from anyone who is willing to contribute information, or even just to help me make linkages to existing info. If you or someone you know would like to help, please comment on my talk page or the Featherston article's talk page. Many thanks -- Januarian ( talk) 10:47, 8 September 2008 (UTC)

Hi Matthew, I just read one of your articles at newpage patrol, and was surprised to see that an editor who has been contributing articles since 2007 hadn't already been approved as an wp:Autoreviewer. So I've taken the liberty of rectifying that. Ϣere SpielChequers 12:33, 16 January 2010 (UTC)

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, will be commencing a two-month trial at approximately 23:00, 2010 June 15 (UTC).
Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under flagged protection. Flagged protection is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial.
When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.
If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Courcelles ( talk) 03:09, 16 June 2010 (UTC)
{{ helpme}} I am currently working on a template in my user space at {{User:Matthew25187/Infobox tram network}}. This template creates a table with embedded child tables and to create these child tables I am trying to call a helper template at {{User:Matthew25187/Infobox tram network/Tram network era}} and passing into the helper template parameters from the main template.
The problem is that the helper template is not being evaluated and is being included as text. The parameters to the helper template seem to be treated as cells in the table (presumably because of the pipe delimiter for both the cells and the parameters). How does one go about calling a template in a table cell where the template produces another table to be embedded? -- Matthew25187 ( talk) 22:58, 30 October 2010 (UTC)

Hello, no problem with your revert of my move as explained. I tend to be a bit bold sometimes to see who will salute. However, why does the article begin Waitakere Railway Station is...., why is the name in the infobox Railway, and the navigation template, and the major reference used?? Regards ( Crusoe8181 ( talk) 03:29, 16 February 2011 (UTC)).
So, how's life going on NZR articles on Wikipedia and suchforth? I see the WikiProject may as well be considered dormant, though I am glad the style guidelines are largely still being followed. Just thought I'd pop my head in briefly, though I do not see myself resuming any serious activity mainly because I'm busy working on my PhD and I hate the way referencing usually works on Wikipedia. Please drop me a line if any disputes arise in future (such as the one re: moving the NZR FP class), since I am still around and am happy to leap back in at a moment's notice when needed. - Axver ( talk) 02:40, 28 August 2011 (UTC)

Hi, Wikipedia:WikiProject Oceania/The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Australia/The 5000 Challenge are up and running based on Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge which has currently produced over 2300 article improvements and creations. The Australia challenge would feed into the wider region one and potentially New Zealand could have a smaller challenge too. The main goal is content improvement, tackling stale old stubs and important content and improving sourcing/making more consistent but new articles are also welcome if sourced. I understand that this is a big goal for regular editors, especially being summertime where you are, but if you'd like to see large scale quality improvements happening for Oceania and Australia like The Africa Destubathon, which has produced over 1700 articles in 5 weeks, sign up on the page. The idea will be an ongoing national editathon/challenge for the region but fuelled by a series of contests to really get articles on every province and subject mass improved. The Africa contest scaled worldwide would naturally provide great benefits to Oceania countries, particularly Australia and attract new editors. I would like some support from existing editors here to get the Challenges off to a start with some articles to make doing a Destubathon worthwhile and potentially bring about hundreds of improvements in a few weeks through a contest! Cheers.♦ -- MediaWiki message delivery ( talk) 02:12, 24 November 2016 (UTC)

Thinking about your summer break? Think about joining other Wikipedians and Wikimedians in Golden Bay / Mohua! Details are on the meetup page. There's heaps of interesting stuff to work on e.g. the oldest extant waka or New Zealand's oldest ongoing legal case. Or you may spend your time taking photos and then upload them.
Golden Bay is hard to get to and the airline flying into Tākaka uses small planes, so we are holding some seats from and to Wellington and we are offering attendees a $200 travel subsidy to help with costs.
Be in touch with Schwede66 if this event interests you and you'd like to discuss logistics. Schwede 66 09:14, 13 November 2023 (UTC)
