Nesh
[Cognate with early modern Dutch, Dutch regional (West Flemish) nesch, nisch soft (of eggs), damp, sodden, foolish (16th cent.), Gothic hnasqus soft, tender. A connection with Old High German nascon and its cognates in sense ‘to eat dainty food or delicacies’ (see NOSH v.) has been suggested, but seems unlikely.
The further etymology of the word is unclear: it has been suggested that it is related to Sanskrit kiknasa particles of ground grain (of rice), flesh of rice (represented in only one corrupt late Vedic text, with variants caknasa, cikkasa, in context implying an unattested compound pista-cikkasa particle of flour, from which some have posited a Sanskrit root cikk- to hurt) and further with Latvian regional knost, knosit to peck at plumage with the beak, pluck, beat (cf. Latvian knosities to scratch oneself), but the connection between the two is difficult to make, and their joint connection with the Germanic word is not generally accepted.]
A. adj.
1. a. Soft in texture or consistency; yielding easily to pressure or force. In later use chiefly: tender, succulent, juicy.
b. In extended use: soft, not harsh or violent. Obs. rare.
c. Damp, moist, wet, chilly.
2. Lacking courage, spirit, or energy; timid, faint-hearted; lazy, negligent. Now Eng. regional, chiefly north. rare.
3. a. Mild, gentle, kind; inclined to pity, mercy, etc. Obs.
b. Easily yielding to temptation; inclined to lust or wantonness. Obs.
4. a. Delicate, weak, sickly, feeble; unable to endure fatigue, etc.; susceptible (to cold, etc.).
b. Fastidious, squeamish, dainty.
B. n. Usually in collocation with hard.
a. That which is soft; spec. soft ground. Also used (in pl.) of people. Obs.
b. Mild or gentle treatment. Obs.
c. in nesh and hard and variants: under all or any circumstances. Obs.
d. for nesh or hard and variants: = in nesh and hard. Obs.
C. adv. Softly; {dag}gently, mildly (obs.). Also: timidly, feebly.

Hello -- I notice you removed my attestation to usage of 'nesh' in Shropshire, Manchester and other places. I agree that my observations of this usage (by my mother and by friends in Manchester and Yorkshire) are 'original research' but they are nonetheless true and form part of their ordinary modern-day language. Hello there,
I've reverted some of your edits to Taxi, and wanted to let you know why. The Manual of Style for Disambiguation Pages lays out what is appropriate for disambiguation pages. Among other things, red links are allowed if it's possible an article could be written on the subject. Additionally, links should not be piped on disambiguation pages. If you have any other quesiton about disambiguation pages, feel free to ask me. -- Nataly a 05:20, 1 September 2006 (UTC)
I agree that it should be discussed and a consensus reached but it does need a review to make sure it covers the whole of the club's history. Hello TerriersFan,
I would like to contribute to this article section, however I don't know where to start and neither hace the time to do it. Taxicabs in Mexico City is currently a very complex subject. It involves a whole load of political and social issues, ranging from the cost of a Taxicab service licence to the corruption of the authorities and tolerance of 'pirata' taxis. Most information is very hard to source, itself beeing common knowledge among citizens of Mexico City, but commonly unavailable on the media. There are some points that must be covered to make this a moderately good section.
-History of taxicabs (taxicabs in mexico have changed a lot troughout the years and continue to change). -The 'Pirata' taxis -Safety condiderations when boarding a Mexican taxicab. (very important, not every taxicab is safe) -Mexican taxicab fares -The aesthetics of the Mexican taxicab.
On August 18 you deleted a post I made about the tolerance of Mexico City police and the unions who provide legal shields for 'pirata' taxis. You deemed the information as POV and unsourced. Unfortunately it is not a POV, it is a fact that everybody is able to confirm asking almost every person in the city and almost every cabdriver. This information is hard to source, however if you can speak spanish you can check here:
Also, I added an image of a taxicab in Mexico City, at first sight it might appear a joke. However, modifications to taxicabs are commonplace. In fact, most taxis on the city have some form of aesthetic enhancement.
I am glad that the article whose split you carried out (and I proposed), is getting better every day. Thanks for your continued effort on this article which I believe is relevant for the community.
Please provide some feedback about what I wrote. Also, as you may hace already noticed, my english is far from perfect. I also have very few time to edit, as I am extremely busy at this time so I may delay a bit on my answer. -- pptudela 21:23, 7 September 2006 (UTC)
Hi TerriersFan. I'm not very active on en-WP anymore, hence the slow response. I haven't had time to review the edits coming from the IP, but if it is extremely excessive, it might be time to contact their ISP. I don't really have much to say beyond that, but good luck in dealing with it. Thanks! -- PS2pcGAMER ( talk) 10:45, 11 September 2006 (UTC)
You wrote: "it should then be quickly closed after just one more comment". The votes for deletion are closed after certain time, not the amount of comments. A suspicious article cannot sit here forever. The total number of comments and discussion time (23 August... 29 aug.... 2 Sept... 10 Sept... 15 Sept...) is enough. The qualified score is 3 keeps against 9 deletes. `' mikka (t) 01:24, 18 September 2006 (UTC)

Hello, and thanks for your note. I deleted this because from the information available, it is a school bus company, of which there are many in Minnesota. The article from which I deleted it does not deal with specialized transportation such as school buses. As I understand Wikipedia policy external links should be few in number, and while I am do not doubt that Palmer is an important company in its field it did not seem particularly relevant or notable to the article's subject. But if you want to discuss it further maybe we could move it to the talk page of the article and see what others think. Thanks. Kablammo 02:38, 27 November 2006 (UTC)

I notice you nominated this article for deletion - your concern was that it was a non-notable university race.
The WEHoRR is not a University race at all - although many universities do take part. It's actually a national event - and probably the most important head race for women in the UK. It is the women's equivalent to the Head of the River Race. Nearly 300 entries were received in 2006 from clubs all over the UK, and many others from European clubs.
As such, I've removed the "prod" template - it most definitely is notable, however the page was only created a couple of days ago, and is in a very fledgling state. The page now also falls within the almost equally fledgling rowing WikiProject, so hopefully it'll receive some attention soon. Richard B 01:16, 8 December 2006 (UTC)

If you can (I am not sure how it works exactly) please disable 216.106.185.169 from editing wikipedia. This is something one of our employees seems to have done, as this is a place of business we do not need people editing wikipedia at all. Due to the nature of our work we cant just block it as non-filtered internet access is required for employees to do their jobs. So if its at all possible please let us keep viewing wikipedia open but block us from editing (if you can.) If not please suggest what we could do to get in contact with someone that can do this for us. Thank you for your time and have a great night! Hi Terriers Fan - I agree with your assessment that the NYC taxicab article shared a lot of overlap with the US taxicab article. However, the New York City taxi is something of an icon in its own right. Taxis in Singapore and Hong Kong have specific articles about them. Given the high degree of regulation and uniqueness of NYC taxis, and their status in NYC's transportation mix, it makes sense that NYC taxis have a specific article covering them, too. Also, after merging the NYC taxi article into the US article the result is too lengthy and cumbersome and begs for breaking down the article in sub-articles again.
The best way to resolve the problem of overlap is to edit the content of the articles. The US article should discuss generalized, national issues, while the NYC taxi article should cover issues specific to NYC (of which there are many).
For these reasons I'd kindly ask you to undo the merge and address your legitimate concerns by editing the texts of the two articles. (I have just spent many hours overhauling the Transportation in New York City article in much the same way; yes, it takes time, but the final result is better quality.)
Thanks for your consideration. Momos 19:31, 19 February 2007 (UTC)

Thank you so much for the tips. I'll have to work on that in the future. Is there an easy way to get the | thing? I have to copy one from another article every time I use one. It's really annoying. Yeah, Saint Monica's Church got nominated, but I think it's going to be kept. It's got a school, it's 120 years old, and it's the largest parish in Vermont: what else do I need? Jeez. Sometimes...oh well. Hopefully it'll be stronger article if it gets kept. Bmrbarre 18:45, 28 February 2007 (UTC)
Thank you for your work improving this article. It has allowed me to change my vote to "keep". My dad would be pleased if he had any idea what Wikipedia is! Jules1975 10:12, 1 March 2007 (UTC)
Just to let you know - I moved the article to Saint Monica's Church (Barre, Vermont) because article titles should reflect the actual name, with disambiguation in parentheses (as with Montgomery High School (Blackpool), above). I don't really see how parentheses are more "ugly" than a comma. I realize there's variation in current titling for churches in this regard (see Category:Roman Catholic cathedrals of the United States for examples), but Barre isn't a well-known location, and the inclusion of Vermont in the title helps readers grasp the region more quickly. Category:Roman Catholic churches in Iowa, for instance, runs more uniformly toward parentheses. I wasn't trying to step on toes, just reaching for titling uniformity; IMO, St. Monica's Church, Santa Monica tends toward confusion as to whether you're indicating a location or a transliteration. MisfitToys 22:38, 3 March 2007 (UTC)

You're probably correct. That book is the same source for the Stonewall Masonic Lodge article. The "first recorded health program" paragraph in roberson HS is verbatim from the book that Blueboar has posted in the AfD (p. 31). Just a quick one in reference to St Thomas More High School for Boys AfD, being a specialist college doesn't actually mean you're any good at that subject - it's purely a money game. A school decides they're going to be 'specialist' in some subject or other, and then has to raise £150K of sponsorship from local business etc. If they achieve that, the money is matched by the Government for 3 years (£450K!) OK, after 3 years the Govt can turn round and say 'actually, your results in Maths (or whatever) are rubbish, we're taking the status off you', but what school would turn down the cash in the meantime? As an example, my wife used to work at a school which was a specialist Performing Arts college. Their results in that subject were the worst in the school :) EliminatorJR Talk 01:21, 15 March 2007 (UTC)

I have the impression that your are surprised by Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/FNFL (American football), perhaps I should have elaborated : the content of FNFL (American football) was created by User:Leelad93 under FNFL. I deleted this text and replaced it with a redirect to Forces navales françaises libres (this is more the sort of article that I tend to create) ; this action was contested by User:Leelad93, so I moved his text to FNFL (American football) and proposed it for deletion. Thanks for noticing and fixing my error at Talk:Park Village Elementary School. -- Ezeu 01:00, 21 March 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for the recognition. There are so few of us who are willing to put our nose to the Google grindstone to find sources. Its so much easier to just type one word, "Delete", and walk away. It is so incredibly easy to fins reliable and verifiable sources, especially for high schools. Alansohn 02:51, 21 March 2007 (UTC)
Thank you for your help so far on the Scottsdale Gun Club entry. As is probably clearly obvious, I'm new to Wiki. Any of my actions that appear untoward are most certainly not, I'm still learning rules, regulations, policies and procedures here at Wikipedia. My biggest concern is that the entire entry is going to be removed/deleted before I'm capable of meeting compliance. Again, thank you for your help. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Scottsdalegunclub ( talk • contribs)
Will all due respect my changing of one word of yours was not vandalism but an attempt to make the article less subjective - I think I failed in that but anyway...Vandalism is not something I do. Thanks. Nedtrifle 09:21, 26 March 2007 (UTC)
I noticed your new word - excellent choice - you are have a better vocabulary than what I have! Nedtrifle 18:34, 27 March 2007 (UTC)
Hi, seeing you have been involved in previous Afd debates on the subject I invite you to contribute to this discussion to clarify certain issues about football player notability. I think clearer guidelines are needed to avoid repeated inappropriate nominations for deletion and time consuming discussions. Cheers! StephP 20:46, 29 March 2007 (UTC)
Thank you for tidying it up! :) ADevNull 22:07, 7 April 2007 (UTC)
Um, a school in California is rated A+ by the state of Florida? That doesn't sound right. Nardman1 23:45, 11 April 2007 (UTC)
Just wanted to say cheers for reverting the vandalism, that's the main reason my headmaster wanted the article deleted but as long as we revert the vandalism. Btw, how do you even get the IP blocked anyway?Olz06 12:35, 13 April 2007 (UTC)
Almost a year ago, I asked you if you would like for me to nominate you for adminship, you refused and thought you were still to new. Well, it has been a while, and you have made major improvements in your edit count and I would like to ask you again if I could nominate you for adminship. :) -- eskimospy (talk) 01:34, 16 April 2007 (UTC)
I saw you Americanized the dates on the Virginia Tech massacre. Actually, if you wikilink them they will change formatting based on a reader's prefs. I think the default format is American-style (April 16) but I, for example, have mine set to format international style (16 April). Just thought you might like to know. An editor has nominated Thick and thin, an article on which you have worked or that you created, for deletion. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also " What Wikipedia is not"). Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Thick and thin and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~). You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Thank you. — Resurgent insurgent 2007-04-18 11:28 Z
Thanks for your kind words at the above AfD and kudos to you on your corresponding efforts at other school articles. It's amazing how much can be found for most schools to satisfy the notability concerns of most editors, especially at the high school level, goven just 10 to 15 minutes. Until we can establish agreement on notability standards for schools, it appears that you and I will be kept quite busy. Alansohn 18:29, 19 April 2007 (UTC)
I really appreciate your merge of the article Oberon Middle School into the Jefferson County Public Schools (Colorado) article, but I wanted to give you a heads-up that I'm going to edit it down to the two relevant at the district level points in it -- the twice-over heart transplant recipient student and its use as a setting for a YA novel, which can be a jumping-off point for other uses of the district's schools in literary and film settings as I track those down. Thanks again for your dedication to improving school articles on Wikipedia! -- Oddharmonic 16:36, 20 April 2007 (UTC)
I noticed you have asked Rooot to not act in a revert war. He appears to be doing this again by taking out large chuncks of the international response and gun control parts of the article while it is still being actively discussed on the talk page. Could you please assess the situation and if appropriate step in? Sad mouse 01:03, 21 April 2007 (UTC)

"student societies need significant secondary sources to justify having their own articles"
Just out of interest why is that the case for student societies? And what are the secondary sources? 87.113.31.241 16:29, 22 April 2007 (UTC)
Good job developing that article. Regards, Navou banter 22:21, 22 April 2007 (UTC)

Congratulations, you are now an administrator! If you haven't already, now is the time look through the Wikipedia:Administrators' how-to guide and Wikipedia:Administrators' reading list. If you have any questions, feel free to ask me, or at the Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard. Best wishes, Warofdreams talk 19:19, 24 April 2007 (UTC)
Yeah! When I'm of legal age, I'll drink some champagne for you. ;] No, seriously, major kudos to you. You deserve every bit of the adminship. You've saved my bottom several times, and helped me prevent some bad things from happening, and that alone is grounds for your promotion. I can't say it enough: congrats! Congratulations! Make us all proud. Alansohn 04:23, 25 April 2007 (UTC)
Congratulations TerriersFan, you now have all the abilities and privileges of an administrator! Just out of curiosity, is the user interface of an administrator account any different of that of a normal account?-- eskimospy ( talk • contribs • count) 04:41, 25 April 2007 (UTC)
You really saw that as having context? Odd. I was even hesitating towards A1. (BTW, gratz on your RfA). Coren 15:42, 28 April 2007 (UTC)
All right. Now you're just confusing the heck out of me. :-) Where on that page did you read an assertion of notability? There is no claim of applicable secondary source of bio information; and hosting a radio show certainly doesn't go anywhere near the notability criterion and that's the only claim in the article besides a very brief statement of birth and education.
I think you're confusing me with some sort of rabid deletist. :-) Take a look at my contributions-- if you discount the obvious nonsense, vandals and spam, my CSD either lead to quick deletion or spur/scare the author into making uninformative two-liners into real proto-articles. I don't put CSD tags for the heck of it, and if you disagree with my assessment of applicability, I'd appreciate your telling me why I'm wrong. :-) Coren 18:41, 28 April 2007 (UTC)
Hi there. I'm curious as to why you removed the deletion request from Ruwantha Cooray. Even with the new (old) information, it clearly does not pass the notability criteria for athletes. As there are no specific criteria for tennis players (it's on WP:TENNIS's list), that's the best criteria we have here. The fact that most of the substantial contributions to the article have come from User:Ruwantha2006 also points to WP:AUTO. I think it's an open-and-shut case for deletion, but if you think "prod" or AfD would be more appropriate, I'd like to hear your comments. -- Spyder_Monkey ( Talk) 22:25, 30 April 2007 (UTC)
I'm currently in need of your guidance and expertise. I have created a new article entitled The Edge of Night, but there is a soap opera article entitled The Edge of Night. How do I create a disambig page to clear all this up? Your help would be much appreciated. Thanks, and best regards, Bmrbarre 20:14, 2 May 2007 (UTC)
I am preparing an article split so I was a bit upset when those pages got deleted. Thanks for userfying it them. Regards,

You recently deleted this page محمد جعفر محمد عبدالرحيم آل نمر just a few hours after it was listed on Wikipedia:Pages needing translation into English. Normally, these pages are reviewed by at least one person who can read the language or otherwise determine the content. I would like to see whether there was any salvageable information in this page before it was deleted. I am unable to access the page's history. Maybe you can explain how I can view the original content, or why you acted so quickly on it or what you thought it contained? Please reply to my talk page. Thanks. Cbdorsett 12:59, 6 May 2007 (UTC)
See my edit on the AFD page. Other editors have not made substantial edits to it. The only person who has made substantial edits are my two accounts. Thanks. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Bearhug Lewis ( talk • contribs) 16:35, 6 May 2007 (UTC). I'm not denying that. Rereard what i said. I said that they made the contribution after I added the tag.
Salve, pal. Thanks for reverting the edits to Spaulding and Barre Town. I appreciate it.
I'm just wondering why you said that you would take out the lyrics. They are actually the words to a poem by Tolkien as listed in the article, so therefore, they should be allowed. I have seen quotes from Tolkien's works before, which is why I included the lyrics to begin with. If you could help clarify this all for my, that would be much appreciated. Thanks much, Bmrbarre 01:35, 7 May 2007 (UTC)
Hmm.. well, assuming good faith, I would assume that he was just another editor, but it does seem unlikely. Since I didn't actually perform the blocks (or CheckUsers) of the other accounts, David Gerard did, I would ask him to CheckUser the accounts to see if they are sockpuppets. You could also block for obvious sockpuppetry, but I would ask David just for the sake of accuracy, we wouldn't want to block a innocent user, would we? :) — The Future 10:37, 8 May 2007 (UTC)
Nicely done. Wear this with pride. DarkAudit 22:34, 11 May 2007 (UTC)
Could you please explain why you replaced a high quality image of Madeleine McCann with a low quality one. Thank you. -- Absolut1966 01:18, 15 May 2007 (UTC)
I have reverted myself for now. But in that case the reference should come after the full stop, not behind the names. Or the reference pertains to the two names, which would mean that Sousa remains uncited for the moment. A ecis Brievenbus 21:53, 15 May 2007 (UTC)
As much as I'd love to live in a realm full of teddy bears and gumdrop ponies as you apparently do, I use Wikipedia to report the cold, dark facts of planet earth.
First off, the majority of the discussion on “Missing White Woman Syndrome” in the McCann article points in favor of leaving MWWS as it is. I don’t know where you’re getting your statistics.
Like a doctor, a writer for an encyclopedia cannot let his personal feelings get in the way of his work, or else there will be room for mistakes. This is okay, you are still learning.
I know it’s difficult to see the coverage of McCann’s abduction simply as a result of media capitalism and “Euro(white)-centrism.” Perhaps we can leave MWWS in the article, but note that it is just speculation (we’ll need a notable source that says this, of course.) -MM 5/16/07
I went back to the article and someone already replaced the MWWS link. Looks like there’s a war between people who believe in MWWS and people who don’t/refuse to accept it.—Preceding unsigned comment added by 128.114.238.196 ( talk • contribs)
