Welcome to Wikipedia. I noticed that your username, "Gutenberg-Museum", may not comply with our
username policy. Please note that you may not use a username that represents the name of a company, group, organization, product, service, or website. Examples of usernames that are not allowed include "XYZ Company", "MyWidgetsUSA.com", and "Foobar Museum of Art". However, you are permitted to use a username that contains such a name if it identifies you individually (not your role), such as "Sara Smith at XYZ Company", "Mark at WidgetsUSA", or "FoobarFan87", but not "SEO Manager at XYZ Company".
Bei der Erstellung des Benutzernamens habe ich mich an den "Hinweisen zur Wahl des Benutzernamens" orientiert. Dort steht folgendes zum Thema 'ungeeignete Benutzernamen' (
https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hilfe:Benutzerkonto_anlegen):
7. Namen, die zu rechtlichen Auseinandersetzungen führen könnten. Insbesondere
Welcome to Wikipedia. Your account has been
blocked from editing because your username gives the impression that the account represents a group, club, organization, company, or website. Your username is the principal reason for the block. You are welcome to continue editing after you have chosen a new username that complies with Wikipedia's
username policy.
Please take a moment to either
create a new account, or request a
username change. The new username that you choose must represent you as an individual person, and it must comply with Wikipedia's
username policy.
To create a new account with a different username, simply log out of this account and then click here to make a new one.
If you prefer to change the username for this account instead, you may do so by adding the following text to the bottom of your talk page (which is this page): {{unblock-un|new username|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}.
Please note that the new username you choose cannot already be in use by another account. You can use
this page to search the list of registered accounts and see if the username you'd like to choose is available. If your search returns that "there is no global account for [your search term]", that means it is available.
Please also note that you are permitted to use a username that contains the name of a company or organization if it also identifies you individually, such as "Sara Smith at XYZ Company", "Mark at WidgetsUSA", or "FoobarFan87", but not "SEO Manager at XYZ Company".
Appeals: If your username does not represent a group, organization, website, or other entity described above, and if you believe that this block was incorrect or made in error, you may
appeal this block by adding the following text to the bottom of your talk page (which is this page): {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}.
You are welcome to participate as an individual, it's just that usernames may not represent organizations. In general, we encourage museums to participate as an extension of their mission, so please do not be discouraged. See
WP:GLAM for a lot more information on how museums can participate. You are welcome to (and encouraged to) state your affiliation, just not by way of a username like "Exxon" or "Deutsches Museum" and so on. Also, on the English Wikipedia it's preferred to communicate in English. While I can read German up to a point, I am likely to miss something important. Acroterion(talk)14:59, 2 July 2024 (UTC)reply
Thank you for your message. I get the problem. However, I am confused by the fact that it doesn't seem to be a problem on the German wikipedia site and the username has even been verified. I was also just able to edit an article there, there is no indication of a problem with my name. Is that supposed to be the case? And is there a way to change the username for the English Wikipedia page only?

Something that we don't explain very well is that the different language versions of Wikipedia are run and administered as separate projects. While their general guiding principles are the same, there are differences in some policies and guidelines to accommodate linguistic and cultural differences.
An important difference between German Wikipedia (dewiki) and English Wikipedia (enwiki) are their
username policies. While dewiki allows for accounts to be named after companies/organizations - provided they are properly verified - enwiki does not. enwiki demands that accounts must represent individuals; they cannot represent
companies, organizations or groups of people. Also, the account can
never be shared; the person who creates the account must be the only person who ever uses it. These policies have been debated and reaffirmed multiple times.
That is why your original username would never be accepted on enwiki. It must be changed to something that represents you as an individual. Unfortunately, changing your username is a global change that propagates across all versions of Wikipedia, so your username on dewiki will be updated as well. But don't worry, your edit history will remain linked to your account, regardless of the name.
I've had to explain this conflict in policies to other users in the past. I will approach some admin users on enwiki to see if there is a way we can better explain this up front, to prevent confusing users like yourself in the future. --

Your reason here Gutenberg-Museum (talk) 1:09 pm, 5 July 2024, last Friday (2 days ago) (UTC+2)
Decline reason:
You still do not understand our
WP:USERNAME policy. The username should represent yourself as an individual. Since Gensfleisch is one of the Gutenberg's names, I guess you are still trying to find some way to have username representing the Museum. That is not allowed. Vanjagenije(talk)11:47, 7 July 2024 (UTC)reply
