I'm talking with Google; but until that succeeds we're stuck without a search engine that has (a) a programattically accessible interface and (b) whose AUP allows this particular kind of reuse. —

I'm not especially worried that an arrangement can't be made: it's more a question of finding the right person(s) to ask than any insurmountable obstacle, and Jimmy is giving me some help in that regard (he does have a number of friends and acquaintance at Google who will be able to talk). I'd wager is more a matter of "when" and hammering out details than "whether". Fingers crossed indeed. —

I don't believe that would be considered to be an appropriate condition by anyone involved, and I certainly wouldn't agree to it. I'm quite certain Google understands the necessity of our independence and how that would be a deal breaker (and there is no indication that they'd even request such a thing in the first place). —

Small update for people watching this thread: there has been no progress as Jimbo was (understandably) busy with Wikimania. I expect things will return to the normal level of chaos shortly and this should proceed. —

I mean, I suppose they could be useful if we were really forced to, but Google is still the best engine for this by far, and the above messages indicate that it's still possible. I'm keeping my eyes peeled for any updates, as
EarwigBot's copyvio task has been down because of this, including the web interface. Coren, thank you for your diligence in getting this solved. —

This was by no means a painless case, but the enforced truce it created did manage to stabilize the area and reduce the disputes around the naming to a toreable background din (as opposed to the catastrophic shouting match that sent anyone sane running away in horror). —

Abortion case and Anthony Appleyard
I requested that Anthony Appleyard be added as a party to the abortion case on the 12th August. Its now the 27th August and no decision has been made. While I understand that you guys are busy you should have made a decision on this ages ago. Its completely unfair to all parties that this hasn't been sorted. --

I expect this to be resolved one way or another within 24 hours. That its taken this long is grossly unacceptable and if it isn't resolved within 24 hours I will escalate the matter. --

Hello, I did not know whom to write in the English wikipedia, so I decided to write you. The page history of Chechnya is one of the Wikipedians constantly editing the article and adds a link (the source) to questionable resources and links for people who are not even engaged in studying the history of Chechnya. How to solve the problem?
