Christopher Schneider's Peer Review

Christopher Schneider Dr. Edem Tetteh Society, Ethics & Technology Wikipedia Assignment October 2018 Project Part 6: Peer Review From Wikipedia Review: • A lead section that is easy to understand - First I believe the article lacks depth. Going into the article the reader will know that the topic is about pipe welding. The article also begins to detail what pipe welding is. But I believe the article needs more information on what pipe welding is, how it is used, and in what applications a non-informed reader can relate to understand the complexity behind it.

• A clear structure - I believe a clear outline of the article is there, but it needs to be developed more. First, I would like to add more history behind welding due in fact to this might be the first time a reader will be learning about not just pipe welding, but welding in general. Some more historical topics need to be developed for a fully realized article. Secondly, the article might get to technical. I would like to add some more lamens descriptions of the process to make it more accessible to the reader without sacrificing the technical merit of the article and what the subject is about. Thirdly, I would like to add what professions are involved in the process such as pipefitters, welding inspectors, engineers to round out the entire scope of the subject.

• Balanced coverage - This is something I mentioned in the structure of the article. I do not want to solely focus on simply just the welding part, but of all the steps and professions of people involved in the pipe welding process as well as jobs where pipe welding is a major factor such as oil refineries, pipelines and as well as defense contract work such as submarines, shipyards and the aerospace field.

• Neutral content - My article does not deal with politics or have much weight in socio-political issues besides the installation of pipelines. But the pipeline politics have more to do with oil companies and with state and federal affairs. Pipe welding has more to do with the technical aspects of the pipe line. So I do not worry I will have to worry too much about biases as this is simply a technical article.

• Reliable sources - So far I have several reliable sources. I will make note to source from the welding juggernauts that have the most history and expertise in the matter such as Miller Welding and Lincoln Welding who have been around since the 1920’s. I will also make note to add references from the American Welding Society if possible as well as A.S.M.E ( American Society of Mechanical Engineers) as they also have much input and say into the this topic and are one of the most reputable and knowledgeable of sources in welding as well as being certified and of course the most credible of institutions with a long history in the mechanical fields.

Pipe Welding moved to draftspace

An article you recently created, Pipe Welding, does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. ( ?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed ( verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. The article has triggered a spam filter; that is why I'm moving it to draft space. The sources are insufficient, while the article reads more like a WP:HOWTO, than an encyclopedia entry. K.e.coffman ( talk) 03:06, 28 October 2018 (UTC) reply
