The Newsletter has not gone out. Are we going to substitute the newsletter cover onto people's pages? Who exactly? All of the active members or all of the members?RyanVeseyReview me!20:39, 2 August 2011 (UTC)
Well, unless Sumsum feels like doing it, I'll AWB the newsletter out as soon as you tell me its finished. I'll just send it to the entire member list, short Mono and Guoguo.
NoleloverTalk·Contribs20:43, 2 August 2011 (UTC)
Ok, we have received a new member since the beginning of August, but I am going to save him/her until the next newsletter. I have also added a short blurb about the drive in the general news section. I think it is ready then you can go ahead and send it. I have AWB too and I currently don't know how to do anything except make general fixes. Maybe you could share some of your knowledge with me.RyanVeseyReview me!21:24, 2 August 2011 (UTC)
Heh, it took me a while too, but to add those automated messages (although Message Delivery Bot is much better) create the list first. I do that by selecting all outgoing links on our participants page and then removing the User pages and Project links. Then go to the tab with the option "Amend/Prepend" or something like that. Check Amend, add the text you want to send out, then start the run. Newsletter looks good, although I personally think we should change it to quarterly (we just don't have that much news). Newsletter will go out tomorrow, short of something possibly coming up, in which case Thursday.
NoleloverTalk·Contribs21:33, 2 August 2011 (UTC)
Do you still want the list, I have it current and in .txt format ready for AWB? I guess I'll just email it to you. Sumsum2010·

50 people signed up for the drive, of which 39 participated. Thanks to all who copy edited articles and helped us reduce the backlogs in both the total articles and requests. We offered a bonus for copy edits from the Requests page, and have been somewhat successful in reducing that backlog, as a record 89 new requests were received in the month of July.
Progress report
During the month of July we reduced the backlog by 338 articles, or by about 8.5%. We did not reach our goal of a 10% reduction, but we came close, and did very well considering the small size of the group participating. Since our Backlog elimination drives began in May 2010, we have reduced the backlog by 4,708 articles. End-of-drive results can be found
here. We will be handing out barnstars within the next week or two.
Requests page
Please remember that the GOCE
Requests page is receiving a high number of requests, with the number of August requests already above three per day. Any assistance to help keep the backlog down would be greatly appreciated.
Our next drive will be in September. We hope to see you there!
I entirely agree. I really don't think that we'll ever gain consensus to get any major sweeping changes done there (ofc, we might not need wide sweeping changes), but I'm not sure where else would be more interested members.
NoleloverTalk·Contribs01:24, 15 August 2011 (UTC)
Just because I don't feel like starting a new thread. I was thinking that the Newsletter could be released every two months. That way there would be more time to create it and there is some time after the drive to fill the drive section. There would then be a new newsletter at the beginning of every drive.RyanVeseyReview me!02:34, 15 August 2011 (UTC)
I was actually going to suggest going to a quarterly newsletter. Although I do like the idea of a newsletter, I think that every month, and maybe even less regularly then that, would still be too often - we just don't have that much news.
NoleloverTalk·Contribs02:39, 15 August 2011 (UTC)
I have no problem with going quarterly. If we were going to do quarterly, I would rather just do 3 newsletters a year. That way we could always have a month after a drive before a newsletter comes out.RyanVeseyReview me!02:42, 15 August 2011 (UTC)
I think doing only 3 newsletters a year is a bit too slow, I'm going to go ahead and set the next one for October. If we can't get bi-monthly newsletters to work, we can step back. I think doing them every 4 months might cause us to forget and have no newsletter at all.RyanVeseyReview me!19:52, 15 August 2011 (UTC)
I'm going to focus on some of the basics (members and general news), once we hit September I might look for some idea of an editorial. I think I might do an editorial on some of the things that have come up in the AWB discussion. Usage of Wikify when more specific examples might exist and how to talk to editors who are tagging articles incorrectly. I am also considering creating some parameters for {{wikify}} such as sections, infobox, underlinked, and html so that editors can show exactly what the problems are. I might suggest for editors to then modify wikify tags with the various parameters. It would certainly be time consuming now, but it could help ensure that articles are wikified correctly in the futue.RyanVeseyReview me!21:14, 15 August 2011 (UTC)

Yes, you're right; I have been pretty busy. Sorry about that. I saw the discussion at the Reliable sources noticeboard, and while I commend you for being proactive in trying to get the website accepted, I think that in the end it won't work. Unfortunately, there just seem to be too many "little" things wrong with UrduToday for it to be accepted. One of the biggest things that very few people have even mentioned it the fact that we can't link to images of newspapers for copyright reasons. Because the have the pictures of the newspapers on there, we really can't use it. However, is there anything that was specifically on there that you wanted to use?
NoleloverTalk·Contribs16:12, 18 August 2011 (UTC)
Yes you are right too,I think, there is no any more need of urdutoday.com,for references. What you have done work on references,it is quite good,I think so.Now I am keeping away myself from the article. Thanks for your all help with assuming good faith.

You're absolutely welcome. :) I've enjoyed working on the article with you and remember - just because some editors frown upon you editing your own article doesn't mean you have to totally stay away from it. If you see something that needs to be fixed you have every right to change it. You still need to follow the rules (which I know you know by now
), but you're every bit an editor as good as me.

NoleloverTalk·Contribs21:08, 19 August 2011 (UTC)
Yes,look useful, but no result.I try my best to find some reliable sources,I contact the person,I noted his email from article.Ehsan Danish is a prominent and very notable urdu poet.In the list of Pakistani poets, there are many poets who have well sources of reliability and notability, but believe me no reality, because our part of world knows how to make the reliable sources, but your part of world does not know this kind of wisdom,I am very sorry to say that.I am speaking the facts what I have seen and noted in my life time.We have to follow the policies of wikipedia anyway, that are ok for us,instead.I have mentioned this new web link to external links of the article,
in it many contents exist in english and urdu to cite references for biography and biliography,if the web is accepted as a reliable source?.See this
I also noted the email, however it was added many years ago, so I'm not sure that it will work. As to your comment about reliable sources - I hear you. The western world isn't used to idea of passing things down verbally, and we place higher emphasis on the written word and better sourcing. As such, eastern websites don't look as good on the surface, but that's just...well, we have to follow the beast, don't we. :/ Anyway, if you find anything else, let me know, and I'll work on this more later.

The
Guild of Copy Editors invites you to participate in their
September 2011 Backlog elimination drive, a month-long effort to reduce the size of the copy editing backlog. The drive will begin on September 1 at 00:00 (UTC) and will end on September 30 at 23:59 (UTC). We will be tracking the number of 2010 articles in the backlog, as we want to copy edit as many of those as possible. Please consider copy editing an article that was tagged in 2010.
Barnstars will be given to anyone who edits more than 4,000 words, with special awards for the top 5 in the categories "Number of articles", "Number of words", and "Number of articles of over 5,000 words". See you at the drive! – Your drive coordinators:

Hi, Nolelover. I'm just letting you know that this was far more suitable to a
speedy deletion template rather than a PROD (in this case, since it was an obvious case of
no context). I'd encourage you to read through the speedy deletion criteria and perhaps use one of those templates in the future as they are acted on far faster. Thanks! —
Joseph Fox01:20, 22 August 2011 (UTC)
The immense amount of tagging has really set us back on the drive. Because of that, I have started using Cat scan to Wikify the smallest pages and am working my way up. Many of the pages I have wikified have only one sentence and there are many situations where the only change I can make is to add one or two links. I have added those pages to my list using {{done}} instead of {{completed}}. How do you think we should count those? I wouldn't really care if you didn't count them at all, but I was thinking they could be counted as a half an article each.RyanVeseyReview me!15:12, 23 August 2011 (UTC)
Yup, August seems to just have been one of those months...Anyway, I've sorta done that same thing - wikify 5-10 at a time, but only count one to stand in for all of them...just play it by ear. Whatever you wish to do is fine; half sounds good.

My computer has been infected with a
Blaster (computer worm) copycat (and my other never works). So both my first and second teams are out, and I've had to call up the entire Triple A. For you non-baseball people that means that two computers are in for repairs and I'm at the library. Oh, and the fall semester begins today. I'll probably be able to get on at least once a day at this approximate time, but will give updates as they come...also, note that I don't have my full watchlist, so I might miss certain discussions.

Urdu poets like you asked. However, remember that you can be
bold and do it yourself. If someone reverts you then it can be good to ask, but you know more about this subject then I do. :)

I made the list of all the articles AC took credit for, which you can see here

We have had 55 people sign up for this drive so far, and 31 have participated. If you have signed up but have not yet copy edited any articles, please consider doing so. Every bit helps! It's not too late to
join the drive if you have not already done so. Another great way to help out is to watch-list the
Coordinators talk page and participate in the ongoing development of the Guild.
Progress report
So far, we have reduced the backlog by 75 articles, or about 19% of our goal. We have also cleared January 2010 off of the queue and are close to clearing off February and March. If each participant were to copy edit two articles from February and March 2010, they would be completely eliminated from the queue.
Rollover words
Several concerns have been brought up this drive about the usage of rollover words. Rollover words only count if they're from the previous drive. For example, if you received 1,000 rollover words in March and didn't participate in May, your rollover words return to zero. This is to encourage participation in multiple consecutive drives.
Hi there! I thought you might be interested in WikiProject Wikify's
October Wikification Backlog Elimination Drive. We'll be trying to reduce the backlog size by over 1,000 articles and we need your help! Hard-working participants in the drive will receive
awards for their contributions, including a brand new one for the single largest wikified article! If you have a spare moment, please join and wikify an article or tell your friends. Thanks!
Note: The drive starts October 1, but you can still
sign up!
First of all if you can give us contact details for any knowledgable volunteer to assist us in this process that will be of tremendous help. Apart from this and other similar articles that you have reccomended for deletion need to analyzed properly. With example to Kukutesvara Siva Temple , the property ownership is private. However it is open for public use and it is a 1000 year old temple! If there are topics about Ashton Kutcher being the new two and a half men lead, clearly this temple could use some space too. The documentation has been done by Dr. Sadashiv Pradhan, he is the head of Utkal University's History and Archeology Department. All of this is stemming from the fact that the students who have volunteered to write posts about such places have not really followed the guidelines properly. Apart from that they need to follow it up with you and other editors. I am gonna ask them to do so. Look forward to hearing from you and your assistance will be greatly appreciated. Apart from Wikipedia entries we are also going to map them on Wikimapia and GoogleMaps. This is an important initiative becuase it is appaling that people live near 1000 year old monuments and have no idea about them. Hence we thought of uploading these materials. You also need to understand that apart from the book by Dr. Pradhan there is no research done on these temples. Dr. Pradhan's work was commissioned by INTACH (Indian National Trust for Arts and Cultural Heritage), if required I can get the publisher to donate the material to Wikipedia. Please advise me as to how to go about this, since this will be a very good project, and is there any page for contacting Wikipedia volunteers by the area they live? Thank you.

My sincerest apologies for not responding sooner; I have asked a more experienced editor to answer your questions. Hopefully, she, or someone else, will be by soon
NoleloverTalk·Contribs00:35, 28 September 2011 (UTC)
Hi Aditya. This is hard. Your reference sounds like a good one. The problem we run into is that our
notability requirements are for multiple reliable sources, and you say, "apart from the book by Dr. Pradhan there is no research done on these temples". Now, I actually find that hard to believe. Surely for a 1000-year-old temple, there must be some other documentation. Are they mentioned in newspaper articles or magazine articles? I'm actually on your side in thinking that these ancient temples probably really do meet our standards for notability, but we need some kind of proof. Is there a good bibliography to Dr. Pradhan's work where he cites previously existing documents about the temples? (The references do not have to be in English.) forgot to sign
allright I am really new to this and it is so complicated, so with regards to the entry about the shiva temple in Bhubaneswar, here is my sign. i dont know how to re-edit that post of mine. I am assuming Il get some notification once you reply.
I know its sound amazing but in this city of temples, due to the state of archeology and history research in this part of the world, we have very few sources. For famous old temples such as Mukteswar and Lingaraj it is no problem. However the entire old town area is a city of temples, and that is what this project is about. I have told the volunteers to cite this other book as an additional refrence, it was written in 1950s or 1960s, they will also post stating its a college project and get assistance from them. Due to the complete lack of awareness I thought about this Wiki entry idea.
Could you also verify if, these temple locations will automatically show up on googlemaps? That could be a nice way to promote tourism out here. Thank you for your inputs, I look forward to reading more.

Heya Ryan, wb! The only pressing thing that I haven't finished is the
October newsletter, which needs a general news section (probably the easiest - the homepage news subpage would be a good start) and a proofreader. Any other tips you can give me on how the newsletter should go out (I was planning to MessageDeliveryBot it on or around the first) would also be appreciated.
NoleloverTalk·Contribs00:22, 28 September 2011 (UTC)
The recent edits made by
User:Artmartxx are, as you and
User:Mbinebri point out, entirely copyright violations. The prose will have to come out, but I'll leave the sources at the bottom. Do you have more sources? I would suggest removing the {{prod}} template at the top so it doesn't get deleted while you work on it. In fact, I'll assume that you have something good to add and will go ahead and remove all that stuff right now.
