Hi
Don mungai! Welcome to Wikipedia. You can get help with editing pages by visiting
this page. Since you're brand new to Wikipedia, I highly recommend that you go through Wikipedia's
getting started page and that you complete Wikipedia's
new user tutorial before you make any edits or take on any major tasks around here. Those tutorial pages will provide you with many important walkthroughs, guides, interactive lessons, and other information that will familiarize you with our
policies and guidelines, how Wikipedia works, how to navigate around the site, and how to find important locations and pages. Most users who take this advice, read through those pages, and complete the new user tutorial usually tell me later that they were significantly helpful to them, and saved them hours of time and frustration they would've experienced otherwise. Please let me know if I can answer any more questions. Again, welcome! :-)

Hi
Averykelly! Welcome to Wikipedia! So, there are a few things you have to do in order to add an image to a page on Wikipedia. If the image doesn't already exist as a file on the project (it's neither uploaded to the English Wikipedia locally nor uploaded to the Wikimedia Commons so it can be used globally), you will need to upload the image first. Wikipedia has a guide page that's located
here that will assist you. When reading through the page, you'll notice right away that much of the information and details are in relation to copyright rules and policies. You must make sure that any and all images you upload are in compliance of Wikipedia's policy on
copyrights. You cannot violate copyright policies; doing so is considered a serious offense, so please please ask for help in cases where you're not sure if the image is in compliance of policy or not. After you've either uploaded or located the image you wish to add to another page, this Wikipedia
help page on images will show you exactly what to do in order to display that image. Please let me know if you run into any more questions, and I'll be happy to answer them and help. :-) Best -

If you also turn your attention to the "submission declined" template (which is also located at the top of the draft page), you'll see the following near the bottom-left corner: "Declined by Spinster300 2 months ago." This means that it has not yet been re-evaluated by a member of the
AFC team. You'll usually be notified once the review has been carried out; alternatively, you can reach out to the AFC user who originally evaluated your submission to see if they're up to looking at it again for you... deleted that draft page for you, but to answer your question: you'll want to read through and understand Wikipedia's
criteria for speedy deletion page. This page will provide a list all of the situations where speedy deletion of an article has been approved by
community consensus to be used. Basically, you'll modify the page or article you wish to tag for speedy deletion review, and add the corresponding template (Example:
{{Db-vandalism}}
for pages that meet speedy deletion criterion
G3) to the very top of the page text, then save your changes. You'll ideally want to notify the page creator of the deletion tagging as well; the page I linked you to will provide you with everything you need. Hi
Shelarkiran001! Welcome to Wikipedia! The article you created will very much likely end up being
deleted (if it hasn't been already).
Creating autobiographies is a strongly discouraged activity and for many reasons (one of which being that it makes it nearly impossible for you to add content that's written

Hello!
I was editing wikipedia on ios mobile today and one of the suggested edits on it was for adding an image of a person onto a list(say, if it was a list of people with first name Albert then suggested edit was to add a photo of someone on that list). The thing is, no one elses photo was on the list so i wasnt sure if adding an image of just person but not the others was ok. Suggested edits shows sugestions based on the wikis of different languages so I assume its okay but i just wanted to be sure. Is it okay to add the image in this scenario? --

Hi
Polarays! When you say, "list of people", are you talking about a
disambiguation page? If so, Wikipedia's
manual of style (in particular,
this section) discourages the addition of images onto disambiguation pages. Those are supposed to simply list articles that are related under a common name or term, nothing more. If it's a list page (an article that starts with "List of...", e.g.
List of tallest buildings), then adding an image to it is fine. You don't have to suddenly have images for every person on the list page; it's not an "all or none" scenario where you either must have images of every item in the list or have none at all. You don't have to do everything; remember that more changes and images can always be added later. That's what this project is about. ;-) Please let me know if I didn't answer your question or refer to the correct article type, and I'll be happy to help you further. :-) Best -

Hello Oshwah, I've just signed up to add an article to Wikipedia and wanted to ask you a quick question. I noticed that there was an article on a Chemical process called Riley Oxidation, which is named after my grandfather. I realise that it's discouraged from writing articles relating to yourself, so I declared that was what I wanted to do and have then tried to write a short biographical article on him from some old newspaper cuttings that I have and an entry from a 1970s "Who's Who". I've done by best to find some online references, but there aren't many. I've just submitted it for review, but wanted to ask your advice on whether I've done the right thing with this, and what I can do to help it to be accepted for publication. Hi there! The name of the
edit filters with my username on them are edit filters that I created and actively maintain. My username is present to make it easy for anyone to know who the creator and maintainer of the edit filter is so that they can reach out to me if the need is warranted. I created and maintain three filters:
filter 51,
filter 53, and
filter 54. They're very extensive in detecting words or phrases that are on new accounts that get created (that's filter #51's job), or content that's added to articles (filter #53 is in charge of that). While they're very extensive, they're not 100% perfect; hits that are flagged and logged by them does not mean that the username or edit is
LTA abuse. If you made a legitimate edit to an article or page and if the edit filter triggered it as a hit, just ignore it. Those edit filters. For example, adding the word "fuck" to an article will trigger the filter. However, that word (given the correct context) is completely legitimate to add to an article. However, it's a word that can obviously be used for abuse or harassment (as you undoubtedly know). This is why these filters only log; they do not block the action from taking place or warn the user.

Hi
QuestFour! I don't recall that there's a specific policy that specifies that users should list the year of a song's release as a single instead of as an album. If there were, I'd think it would be detailed
here, or in a subpage that's linked from there. If you find such a guideline that does state this (it most certainly wouldn't be a policy), then sure, peacefully inform the other party. Other than that, does it really matter that much? We're talking one year in difference. ;-)

There's a few issues with this block.
From
WP:UAAI:
Only report accounts with edits and do not report those with no edits in the preceding 2 weeks. Account has no edits, live or deleted, and has not tripped the filter log.
Promotional violations require substantive evidence. no edits=no evidence
Do not warn someone about their name and then immediately report them to UAA. The filp side of that is that we shouldn't block an account that has been warned but not had a chance to respond.
Hi
Just Step Sideways! Thanks for the message and for expressing your concerns. I didn't report anything; I simply soft-blocked the account based on their username. Violating Wikipedia's
username policy can lead to an appropriate block. In my experience over the many years that I've patrolled and handled
disruptive editing in all forms as well as hundreds of such accounts (I'm sure you have as well), I can say that they will nearly always only make promotional edits; that's usually what they're here for if they set a company name as their username. In effect, that to me is evidence! I obviously don't hard-block or threaten them, but what a soft block serves to do is send a clear message that (of course) their username is not allowed, but also that promotional editing isn't allowed - and if you wish, you can just go create a new account or have this one renamed, and you can edit. I think that appropriately strikes a balance between enforcing the policy and allowing the user to easily overcome the problem. I'm (as you know) always happy to discuss this further; just let me know and, pull up a chair, and I'll share a case of beer with you. :-) Again, I appreciate you for coming to me and for expressing your disagreement, and doing so peacefully. :-) Best -
~Oshwah~(talk)(contribs)02:15, 10 July 2024 (UTC)reply
I realize you didn't report it, and were probably unaware that the user who issued the warning did report them, and further that I declined their report with the standard "wait until the user edits" response.
I agree that the most likely thing the account would have done had it made any edits would be to edit on behalf of a client, but for whatever reason many accounts are created every single day that never make a single edit, and reporting them is something we actively discourage at UAA (unless it's something really nasty or a blp violation). There's even a template, {{UAA-no edits}} for this very purpose. So, for me it is less about you being manifestly wrong in blocking them and more about being consistent with what users see admins doing in this regard.
I probably should've made all that clear in my initial post, it has been a long-term goal of mine to educate users on when to report and when not to. Reporting names with no edits is something we actively discourage at UAA (unless it's something really nasty or a blp violation), there's even a template, {{UAA-no edits}} for this very purpose. So, for me it is not about you being manifestly wrong in blocking them, it's more about being consistent with what users see admins doing in this regard.
Just Step Sideways - OHHHHH! I got'cha now! Okay, I see exactly what you're saying... :-) Also, HOW DARE YOU THANK ME FOR BEING CORDIAL YOU SON OF A.... (just kidding). ;-) Users need to be cordial if they're going to earn full community respect on this project - full stop. It's not about being perfect, about being right, or even about holding user rights; it's about being personable and understanding to others - even if they dispute, disagree, or even become heated toward you. A huge part of earning legitimate respect from others is showing that you're open to publicly being held accountable for your actions. I strive to do the right thing, and there are times where I'm wrong and that I do not do so. I'd much rather have someone come directly to me and tell me if they have concerns in this regard than not to. It's easy to "talk the talk"; it's a rare diamond to see someone who "walks the walk". Thanks again for reaching out to me. Don't be a stranger! We have BBQs and beer regularly here! ;-)

Also, I think she said all the Sailor Senshi (except for Uranus and Neptune) are Straight. I can't find the exact source. But, I have seen it mentioned elsewhere online by multiple fans. That's why I removed them from your List of animated series with LGBT characters: 1990-1994 article. Also, I already gave an edit summary to my changes. You must not have noticed it. This involves uploading significantly modified images to commons without a source and trying to claim they are from a much older storm than they actually are. Seems a bit different than the person you mention but it’s rather odd for a new account to exhibit such behavior.

LTA on IP range?
Hi. I've recently run into an IP editor who seems to be somewhat problematic. When I go to their talk page, I see they are on a IP range that you previously temporarily blocked for LTA. As I am not familiar with the LTA context, I have no way of knowing if the current editor is the problem child. The IP is 208.87.236.180(
talk·contribs·deleted contribs·filter log·WHOIS·RDNS·RBLs·http·block user·block log). Could you please determine whether this is the individual that was intended to be blocked by the range block, and take some action if this proves to be the case? Thank you.

To save you some time, I reviewed their contribs and found that they vandalized an LGBT userbox and also seem to have made a questionable edit to
Transgender rights in Australia, so if the LTA had to do with LGBT issues, this is probably them. The issue I am having with them also indirectly relates to LGBT rights: they seem to object to the inclusion of a link to a Wikipedia page which asserts such rights, though that is incidental to the disputed content.

Well, the IP has since taken me to ANI: without much success due to their case not really having much merit. It's still not clear to me if they were the intended target of the range block, but for the moment it seems a bit moot as IPs are currently blocked from editing ANI due to vandalism. However, if you had anything substantive to add about the reasons that IP was previously blocked at
WP:ANI#Skyerise: Edit Warring, aspersions, incivility, wikistalking, I wouldn't object to you adding it. If you don't, it's probably better to say nothing, as if there are no more replies there, the thread will soon be archived.

Hi Oshwah! Question.. I noticed [REMOVED - Oshwah] and thought it should probably be suppressed/deleted so that you can't see the diff. Where would I normally report edits such as these? This on seems like it should probably be suppressed. Thanks!!!

Hi there! I noticed that you made an edit on
The Station nightclub fire in which you put the name of the venue, The Station, in italics. I've never seen the name of a business in italics before, assumed it wasn't
manual of style and changed it back. But I also noticed who made the edit and wanted to double-check with you as well. Are italics correct in that situation?

Doc Strange! It's so good to see you again! It's been wayyy too too long! I hope you're doing well! I actually don't know; I've seen movies, titles, and other references to material like this italicized, so I thought it would apply here. No worries about the revert; It's just formatting. It's not the end of the world. :-) Stay well, and thanks for messaging me! :-D

Hi
JimmyCarterLover1! Just open the page you wish to modify and click on the 'Edit' tab at the top of the page, and the short description will usually be in a template near the top of the content of the page. Please let me know if you need additional help, and I'll be happy to lend a hand. ;-)

Hi again,
T24boo! Let's take a look at
this edit you made. I like that you changed "is widely known for publishing" to "authored". However, my concerns aren't with what you removed, but with what you added. If you look at the diff and see what you added, it looks like you added a fragment (an incomplete sentence). It looks as if you added content, but accidentally deleted the first part of the sentence. It just starts with, "book [sic] that integrates family therapy and hypnotherapy". Obviously that doesn't make sense. :-) Another thing as well is the fact that the text you added, "Ritterman has worked extensively with survivors of political torture and their families. Her work has been translated into Spanish, German, Italian, and French". This isn't elaborated more in-depthin the body of the article, and it... might be seen by some reviewers as possibly being
non-neutral or talking positively about the article subject. If you look at
this guideline page, it should talk about how summary paragraphs work (which is where you made this edit). We generally want summary paragraphs to also be mentioned in the body of the article and be referenced by a
reliable source. I don't expect someone new such as yourself to know this, but I figured I'd mention it as well in order to help you understand, learn, and grow here. :-) Your second edit
here cleans that up, though... so that's good! However, if you look at
both of your edits before and after, overall I don't think you did a bad job. Nice work! Just keep those things in mind; you'll learn as you do this more. :-) Don't be a stranger if you need my assistance with anything else. Cheers -
