Michael McGirr is an Australian teacher, writer and literary reviewer.
McGirr was born in Sydney, where he grew up with his family. His grandfather, Greg McGirr, was a politician in the Legislative Assembly of New South Wales, and was for a brief time leader of the Labor Party in the Parliament of New South Wales during 1923. His great-uncle, James McGirr, was Premier of New South Wales between 1947 and 1952. His brother, Joe McGirr, was elected to the NSW Parliament in 2018 as an independent member for Wagga Wagga following a by-election for the seat. [1]
