Construction
The avenue was constructed first from
Kennedy Road to The Bridle Walk, then from The Bridle Walk to
McCowan Road. From there, Bur Oak was expanded to
Highway 48 to accommodate the new Wismer Common subdivision and then later extended yet again to
Ninth Line. Another portion of Bur Oak, between Whites Hill and Church Street was already constructed with the Cornell subdivision. Eventually, Bur Oak was extended once again past Ninth Line, curving south toward
16th Avenue, intersecting it, and joined at Whites Hill Avenue. The portion of Bur Oak between 16th Avenue and Whites Hill was opened in October 2006, and the road was complete to
Highway 7 in early 2007. The future also calls for Bur Oak Avenue to be extended south of Highway 7 to serve the developing Box Grove community.
Public transit
