In the wake of the Essjay scandal and several other incidents, I am composing a list of obvious ethical no-nos which might save us a lot of trouble in the future if they're adopted as policy. You're encouraged to edit this page (although as it's my user space, I reserve the right to change it) or post on the associated talk page:
Basic Wikipedia ethics
Some basic Wikipedia ethics:
Don't claim academic or professional credentials you don't really have.
Don't impersonate anyone else.
Don't lie to the press or to the public.
Don't say you represent Wikipedia or the Wikimedia foundation, unless you really do.
Don't threaten anyone off of Wikipedia for anything done on Wikipedia. If a situation arises where this seems necessary, contact the office.
If you do any of these things, you will face the loss of administrative responsibilities and/or be banned. So, don't do them.
