Tyler Larson (born May 30, 1989 [1]) is an American guitarist, YouTube personality, music educator, and writer. Since 2015, he has produced the YouTube channel Music is Win, where he posts guitar and music related content. He also produces Guitar Super System, an online learning platform for guitar.

Early life and education

Larson was raised in Hudson, New Hampshire and attended Bishop Guertin High School in nearby Nashua, where he played football, serving as the team's kicker for their 2006 Division II state championship. At 12 years old, he was inspired to learn guitar after hearing works such as " Eruption" by Eddie Van Halen and " Cliffs of Dover" by Eric Johnson. [2] He began to learn the instrument in a more serious way during his junior and senior years of high school, initially by playing along with his favorite bands. [3] After graduating high school in 2007, he was heavily recruited to play kicker at the college level, but instead opted to attend Berklee College of Music, graduating with a Bachelor of Music degree. [4] [5] [1]

Professional career

Larson began his YouTube channel in 2015, and as of May 2, 2023, has 1.65 million subscribers, 1,200 videos posted, and over 450,000,000 views. [6]

He was inspired to start the channel and his online education platform, Guitar Super System, based on his experiences at Berklee, based on what "effective teaching felt like from a student’s perspective". His videos shift focus between short guitar and music theory lessons and humorous guitar-based skits, as well as equipment reviews and other music-related content. [3]

In 2020 and 2021, Larson was one of the featured performers for the Experience PRS event. [7] [8]

Larson is a regular contributor to Guitar World magazine. [9]

Personal life

Tyler is married to fellow YouTuber Bethany Larson, who hosts a channel for learning English as a second language. [10]
