Did you know...
Paul Parkman
... that Paul Parkman(pictured), one of the developers of the
rubella vaccine, did not monetize the patent so that the vaccine could be freely available?
... that despite specializing in literature and serving as a senior editor of the
Zhonghua Book Company, historian Zhang Zhenglang never published a single book of his own?
... that when MT Petar Hektorović was temporarily reassigned, one resident of
Vis wrote an online memorial to the ship, writing "the waves of Vis grieve for you"?
The Manual of Style (abbreviated as MoS or MOS) is the
style guide for all Wikipedia articles. Its goal is to make using Wikipedia easier and more intuitive by promoting clarity and cohesion. Style and formatting should be consistent within an article based on the MOS.
The shortcut to the main MOS guideline page is
WP:MOS. To add the MOS template to your user or talk page, place {{style}} on there.
Any suggestions for improvement or changes to the MOS guideline begins with discussion and consensus at the
MOS talk page.
To add this auto-updating template to your user page, use {{tip of the day}}
Community bulletin board
How to add to the community bulletin board
The community bulletin board has 2 sections that can be used by Wikipedians for announcements: "Events and projects" and "WikiProject notices". In general, keep it concise (under 2 lines), refrain from fancy formatting, and new entries should be placed at the top of their section.
Events and projects: In this section, only organized events, projects, and/or competitions should be listed. These are organized by how often they occur:
The Yearly section is for uncommon events, like events that only occur every year, once, or irregularly. The Monthly section is for events that occur each month, or are always ongoing.
WikiProject notices: In this section, any announcement, request for help or other notice from a WikiProject should be listed here.
Entries should be signed, and ordered from newest to oldest.
Entries are to be removed after a period of 6 months.
Welcome to the community bulletin board, which is a page used for announcements from
WikiProjects and other groups. Included here are coordinated efforts, events, projects, and other general announcements.
Want to help good articles get better? Sign up for the July Good Article backlog drive! New and experienced reviewers welcome.
Monthly or continuous events
Monthly contest, WikiProject Military history. The contest department of the Military history WikiProject aims to motivate increased quality in military history articles by offering a form of friendly competition for project members making improvements to them. The primary contest available is a simple rolling competition that awards points for improving articles. The contest runs from the first to last day of each month.

Recent changes
Over the next three weeks, dark mode will become available for all users, both logged-in and logged-out, starting with the mobile web version. This fulfils one of the
top-requested community wishes, and improves low-contrast reading and usage in low-light settings. As part of these changes, dark mode will also work on User-pages and Portals. There is more information in
the latest Web team update.
[1]
Logged-in users can now set
global preferences for the text-size and dark-mode, thanks to a combined effort across Foundation teams. This allows Wikimedians using multiple wikis to set up a consistent reading experience easily, for example by switching between light and dark mode only once for all wikis.
[2]
If you use a very old web browser some features might not work on the Wikimedia wikis. This affects Internet Explorer 11 and versions of Chrome, Firefox and Safari older than 2016. This change makes it possible to use new
CSS features and to send less code to all readers.
[3][4]
Wikipedia Admins can customize local wiki configuration options easily using
Community Configuration. Community Configuration was created to allow communities to customize how some features work, because each language wiki has unique needs. At the moment, admins can configure
Growth features on their home wikis, in order to better recruit and retain new editors. More options will be provided in the coming months.

Editors interested in language issues that are related to
Unicode standards, can now discuss those topics at
a new conversation space in MediaWiki.org. The Wikimedia Foundation is now a
member of the Unicode Consortium, and the coordination group can collaboratively review the issues discussed and, where appropriate, bring them to the attention of the Unicode Consortium.
