Shortcuts
This is a directory of abbreviated redirects and the pages they lead to (mainly in the
Wikipedia namespace ). For a list of community related shortcuts such as for
WikiProjects and
Portals see
WP:WPR and
WP:PORTCUT , respectively. For a list of shortcuts to
Wikipedia talk pages see
WP:WTSHORTCUTS . For technical details see
WP:SHORT .
For other useful directories see the navigation bar above .
How to create a shortcut
Shortcuts exist as
redirects pointing from the title of the shortcut (for example,
Wikipedia:START ) to its target (in this case,
Portal:Contents ). Notice that project shortcuts are usually listed with the prefix "WP" and not "Wikipedia"; this is because when "WP" or "Wp" appears before a
colon in a page name, Wikipedia automatically expands it to "Wikipedia". Therefore, there is no need to create shortcuts literally starting with "WP:" as opposed to "Wikipedia:". Prefixes similar to "WP" can be found at
Wikipedia:Shortcut#List of prefixes .
Shortcut redirects should be tagged with
Template:R from shortcut (
talk
links
history ) so they will auto-categorize in
Category:Redirects from shortcut .
Example : #redirect Pagename R from shortcut

Internal links
Using double brackets and pipe | to automatically hide source info - nowiki style:
Automatically hide stuff in parentheses: kingdom (biology) - kingdom.
Automatically hide namespace: Village pump - Village pump.
Or both: Manual of Style - Manual of Style
But not: Wikipedia:Manual of Style#Links - no link, just text: Wikipedia:Manual of Style#Links.

External links
See meta:interwiki map for the list of shortcuts.
Square brackets indicate an external link. Note the use of a space (not a pipe) to separate the URL from the link text in the "named" version: Wikipedia
Three ways to link to external (non-wiki) sources - nowiki style:
Bare URL: http://en.wikipedia.org/ (bad style)
Unnamed link: (only used within article body for footnotes)
