Airboarding is a
winter sport that involves sliding down a
ski slope on an inflatable,
zeppelin-shaped sled. Direction and speed of descent is controlled by grooves on the underside of the board.[1][2][3][4][5] Top speeds of more than 80 mph are possible.[6][7][8] Airboarding was developed in
Switzerland during the
1990s.[9]

Airboarding has been slow to take off in the
United States; it is more popular in
Africa and
Europe.[10] European resorts that allow airboarding include:[11]
Ski resorts in the United States have been reluctant to allow airboarding due to liability concerns. As of 2008 six resorts in the United States allow the sport:[5][12]
