Has anybody else noticed that Ribosome is listed under the section reading "sub-organelle, found within the nucleus"? Am I incorrect that ribosomes are not found within the nucleus, but a localized on the rough endoplasmic reticulum and free in the cytoplasm? – Clockwork Soul 11:14, 25 September 2006 (UTC)
As of April 2010 [update], the Organelles template includes " Cilium/ Flagellum". Since cilia and flagella are structurally identical, and their two distinct names hearken back to when their microstructure and function were unknown, the biology community seems to have now given the common name Undulipodium to the set of two structurally identical organelles.
My question, should we consider changing the name in the organelle template from " Cilium/ Flagellum" to Undulipodium? Or would it be better to wait for the term to be more widely used, and more widely understood by the lay public? N2e ( talk) 02:45, 8 April 2010 (UTC)
Eukaryotic cilia/flagella are intracellular organelles not extracellular. -- kupirijo ( talk) 10:53, 6 November 2020 (UTC)
If one starts to mention the macromolecular complexes found within the cells (e.g. ribosomes, spliceosomes, proteasomes, vaults...) then where would one stop? Anything larger than 10 nm? Anything about which article exists (even protein dimer is a complex, sometimes macro-molecular complex)? Only the articles about the complexes which have Good or Featured article status? There's been the discussion to not add more obscure organelles as that would make the list of organelles too long, but could we include Spitzenkörper or Polysomes? These two are somewhat obscure compared to more famous organelles like the Golgi, but as Spitzenkörper is limited to hyphae, so are parenthesomes. Tridwoxi ( talk) 14:33, 8 December 2019 (UTC)
Are nitroplasts notable enough to include in the template? There are other cases of vertically-inherited endosymbionts with reduced genomes that are not included. Arctostaphylospallida ( talk) 05:44, 21 April 2024 (UTC)
