note issued in 1914, featuring engravings of
William Tell

) and the
Rütli Mountain
. The currency and
legal tender
of Switzerland and Liechtenstein, the franc was introduced by the
Helvetic Republic
in 1798. In 1907, the
Swiss National Bank
's first
notes
were issued in four denominations. The five franc note depicted here is from the second series, which was issued in Switzerland's
three most widely spoken languages
.
