I'm very sceptical about the orthography story as recounted here. The spelling Wombourn was more or less standard then, as a glance at any old map will show. Cf the maps at [ Staffordshire Past Track], where the spelling without the e is used on the 1775 Yates map, the 1899-1904 and the 1945-48 OS maps. Hence I've amended as charitably as I can. Frankly, I think it very unlikely anyone even considered the alternative spelling, which seems to have caught on circa 1960 and is still hated by many locals. I would be happy to have this disproved by a reference, e.g. to any GWR minutes or a referenced secondary source. Sjwells53 ( talk) 09:29, 1 March 2010 (UTC)
Hello fellow Wikipedians,
I have just added archive links to one external link on

after the link to keep me from modifying it. Alternatively, you can add {{
